Tao brings up a good point. Goddamn, it bugs me to no end that some of my biggest heroes have these huge black marks on their record (ie Leary's semi-narcing, Burroughs heroin addiction, Lennon's dead beat dad status concerning Julian, Abbie Hoffman's black mail of the Woodstock promoters, Jefferson Airplane became huge sell outs, etc..). I think it's fucked up to no end that Ginsberg was involved with those NAMBLA scumbags. Why did he have to go tainting his legacy like that?

I know these guys were human, but it really hurts me that some of the biggest icons of the counter culture did some fucked up things. How frustrating and depressing.

The whole counter-culture was about doing fucked things and getting fucked up. They deemed as fuck-ups by the rest of society and they still are recognized for their adversion to the American standard.

There's just nothing about celebrity status that creates an inherent difference in people, and it can, in fact, at times bring out the worst in people. all the pressure of it. You can't blame them anymore than you would anyone else, but you can't blame them any less either.

It's not something that should furstrate you and depress you anymore than that your dad may have cheated on your mom, or that your friend smokes crack.

They're just mistakes people make.

That's not to justify it, just to say that it's just kind of the way things go.
