what's a good program for instant messaging?

is there any advantage to choosing, like, ICQ over AOL or some shit...or are they all pretty much the same?

Gaim does the trick. Much better than AIM.

uber hawt greeter girl at work approached me today asking about whether or not I had any sort of instant messaging program, and then she insisted I get one of em and mail her my info so we can chat

I don't know what exactly this is all about, or why I'm hoping this might actually lead somewhere with this girl...but I'm apparently just big enough of an idiot to actually go through with some shit like this (especially considering my dealings with her already)







so if nothing else - apparently she's going to have yet another way to ignore me now :shrugs:

Dead aim is cool. It turns aim into a nice polite program like back in the good old days, before you had 4 pop ups every time you ran the program and ads on the top, side, and up your ass.

I use trillian, you can connect to several different progs at once and it works well..

the person that talked me into it this time apparently uses like 18 different ones, so that's what this thread was created for

I used to use ICQ all the time back in the day (when I apparently wasn't quite as distant as I am now) and my first initial instinct was to go back to it...but then I started wondering if it was even still as big as it once was, and I figured I'd be better off getting whatever's most popular (just in case, ya know)
