Problems with Samba
    #4149397 -

Linux gurus, help me.

I have Samba running on an Ubuntu machine, user level security (users&passwords created, everything configured ok(i think)). I can?t connect to the machine from my windows laptop. I see the samba server machine under workgoup computers, but when I try to connect it says

"//xxxxx[computer name]xxxxxxxxxx is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The parameter is incorrect."

If I try to view the properties of the server it says "The server does not accept remote requests."

I have configured iptables to allow tcp connections to ports 137,138,139.

Anybody got a clue? I can post the smb.conf file if it helps.

did you use the samba command to create passwords for the users? i can't remember it off the top of my head. smbclient -L comes to mind but i think that might be wrong.

Yes, that's right Suffer.
You'll have to login as root in a console and type,
smbpasswd "existing user in /etc/passwd" -a /etc/samba/smbpasswd

Also, don't forget to enable both smbd and nmbd daemons.

MAIA

p.s.: "existing user in /etc/passwd" = your username

Thanks, done that. I'll PM the conf file to suffer now.
