Why do I keep having this problem?
    #1831340 - 08/19/03 10:47 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Hello,

I keep getting this Error message when I click on certain links while online. I think that it may have something to do with Java, that is what a co-worker said, but I have no idea what java even is.

Also, all of the other links that I click come up blank. The hour glass shows that they are loading, but they never do. I have to end up stoping the link and refreshing just to get it to work.

If anyone has any advice as to what I should do please let me know.

Thank you

Peace

thats a javascript error.

it's most likely a problem with the code on the website you're trying to view.

can you tell us the url of the problem sites, and what browser you're using, and I'll try to help you out further.

meanwhile, try using another web browser, it might be a problem specific with internet explorer. firebird is quite nice...

Hello,

There is not any sites in particular. These problems happen on every web site I am on. Every time I click a link and a new window opens either the debug error comes on or the page just never finishes loading.

I am not sure what a browser is.

I have msn 8 if that is what you need to know, and XP.

I hope this helps at all.

Thank you for the reply.

Peace

A browser is the program you use to display and navigate the web, like IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, Firebird etc. etc. Wasn't aware of an MSN browser, I suppose thats just IE with something on top of it. Anyways, if it's a problem with Java, you might try downloading an alternative to the MS Java VM, http://java.sun.com is where you should find it. And yes, try an alternative browser like Firebird.

Never seen an error of that nature, how odd, though I'd seen them all by now.

Using IE, click on Tools->Internet Options. Click the advanced tab. Go down to the browse section. Ensure that the option, 'Display a notification about every script error' is not checked. You can also check the 'Disable script debugging' as well.

Hello,

Thank you everyone. I went ahead and downloaded Mozilla Firebird. I opened it up and am totally confused now. I have no idea what I am supposed to do with all of these files. I click on the icon (the flames) and it lets me browse the internet but I have to sign in through the butterfly icon. I know this sounds cheesy or whatever but I do not know hardly anything about computers. If all I am supposed to do is keep doing what I have been then cool, but if I should be doing something else (so I do not have to sign in through the microsoft butterfly) then please let me know.

Thanks again.

Peace

Hello,

O.k. I am officially using Mozilla Firebird now. I like it much more than what I had before. I am no longer having problems with the links. I also really like the tabs option. That is really nice, compared to having to have a bunch of windows open.

Thank you everyone who replied to my question.

Peace

:heart:Firebird:heart:

extensions I'm using:

x 0.2 "paranoia" button - clears cookies/cache/history/etc.
tabbrowser extensions - customize how your tabs work
nuke image 0.3 - removes specific images from websites
searchthis - highlight words and it looks it up in a dictionary
autoscroll
adblock
blockfall - cool tetris game
statusbar clock - puts date in the statusbar

theme: noia-warm (w/ decreased text & button size)

any suggestions? thanks :smile:

Hello,

Xochitl, how do you get "x" (the extension) to work. It says that "x adds a toolbar button", but I can not seem to figure out where it is. Also, on the adblock how do I get filters? I am a little confused.

Thanks for any help.

for x, go to view>toolbars>customize. You'll see an area with other icons and options for the toolbar. Look for the key with the "X" on it and drag/drop it wherever you want it on the toolbar.

check out http://adblock.mozdev.org for more info. You type a part of url that commonly has banners and ads. Here are some that work:

*/ad/*
*/ads/*
*/banner/*
*adtech*
*annonce*
*banners*
*doubleclick*
*doubleclick.net*

(I think that's how its done :nut: )
