Older heads, enlighten me

    Well life's events have finally allowed me to spend a summer on the road :heart:  We'll be hitting various festivals throughout the west and midwest, but mainly sticking with the Cheese parade.  Of course we're young and poor and a little crazy, so our current plan is to camp the entire time, bathing in rivers and unlocked hotel pools when need be :wink:  We will be traveling with some scheduled chemicals so legal troubles are the main worries as of now. 

    With that said I'd love to hear from you older and more experienced tour rats on the subject of traveling safe.  Is it common for people to get together and travel in caravans for protection? or is that just going to draw more unwanted attention?  I'm looking for any and all advice you may have to offer, assume that I know nothing.

I'm not very old, but after travelling for a few months last year, there's a few things I've learned.

Be careful about camping in Walmart parking lots. I know it's Walmart policy to allow camping, but some cities have laws agains sleeping in your vehicle. I came close to being arrested near Noblesville, Indiana when a cop knocked on my van door. I had just got done smoking a joint and was hitting whippits, and he could tell I was in an altered state, yet made me leave, so I got on an interstate and found a gas station to park at.

Also, money runs out quicker than you plan on. Gas is a bitch. You need some way of generating cash on the road. Make sure whoever's driving is somewhat sober. Make sure you have curtains or something covering the windows so at night cops can't see in. Invest in a good stash can that's discreet.

Most places charge at least $10-15 a night to camp, keep in mind.

I'm not an older head, but I do have a little wisdom...

Keep all private things in the trunk of your car. The police need
permission from you to search in there.

Don't drive under the influence.

A pre-flight inspection for the vehicle is probably a good thing, stock up
on automotive light bulbs so you don't get hassled for burnt-out signals.

As far as gas is concerned, it's probably best to change the oil in
your car and check the ignition timing. If you can afford to replace
the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires, that will help out your MPG too.
Your goal here is to burn the cheapest gas possible without knocks and pings.

I always been told no powders in the car what so ever. Dont get high and drive. And plain ole dont be stupid. And dont be supprised if you find your self in a jail once or twice. Thats a cold hard fact beleave it or not.

Also, make sure you only carry enough illegal substances to eat safely and quickly....
