Driving Cross Country...
    #4073141 - 04/19/05 04:44 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

How risky would it be to drive cross country with a few cannabis plants in the back of my car (SUV actually)?  Not huge fully flowered ones but more like 7-10 inches tall.  Are there border checks on some states?

Thank you...

I've driven all over, most recently from san antonio to chicago, and I only stopped to eat, get gas, sleep, and pay tolls. personally I've never seen a "border check" between states... lately you never know what the fuck you're going to get stopped for though, so I couldn't really tell you how risky that is.

The problem is getting pulled over and then the cop finding marijuana plants.

Why the hell would anyone drive cross-country with pot-plants in their SUV??? It seems like a bad idea.. If you're moving, you should leave the plants under the care of someone who knows what their doing. You can alway get more seed..

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would put the risk at a 6 and the stupidity at a solid 10. I always hear the cops say, "We only catch the stupid ones..."

How long does it take to germinate a seed and get a 7 to 10 inch plant out of it... around a month... how long does it take to get out of jail for being stupid and driving across the country with plants in the back of your suv... 20 years to life...

Yeah cali has an ag inspection and but i'm not sure if any other states do. That being said, it's just stupid to drive anywhere with pot plants in your car. All it takes is one person at a rest area to see them and call the cops and you're in prison for delivering drugs across state lines.

when you drive into california, you have to pass through a checkpoint where you are asked specifically if you have any plants in the vehicle...

not only that, a lot of cops patrol the cross country routes farming for ticket money.

a trip cross country with live plants would be insane.

much saner would be to mail rooted cuttings...

So what If you say "No, I don't have any plants in the car."?

When I'm almost there I could put them in a cardboard box, (remember I'm moving and there will be A LOT of boxes) and put it under some other boxes. Would that work?

Are there any drug dogs that are at the stop?

Thank you...

Edit- I don't really want to start over (growing). But I guess it's better than being busted with pot plants in your vehicle..

Gosh man...no offense but this is a REALLY supid idea. Really, really, really, really stupid idea.

A little bit of common sense, rational fear, and caring about your future will tell you NOT to do this.

Yes, there are dogs sometimes there.

Yes, they pull individuals over at these checks and do hand searches randomly.

Yes, we live in a hyper-paranoid society now post 9/11 and the chances of you getting caught are just so high, I can't believe anyone would do this.

Why do people get pulled over normally?

Make sure the vehicle is 100% mechanically sound. No broken lights, no dripping liquids, no dark tint. Make sure the vehicle does not stand out in any way. Then follow all posted traffic laws. Don't drive slow, simply follow the flow of traffic.

How many times in your life have you had your vehicle searched? I never have. So even if for some reason you are stopped it's unlikely you'll be searched unless you give them cause.

Oh and definitely peel the "Legalize marijuana" sticker off the bumper.

Most important of all, MAKE SURE you don't drive across the country with pot plants in your vehicle! Seriously man, you're moving to CALIFORNIA. You know how much high quality weed you're going to score there? DON'T RISK IT

It will take you what, a week to grow new plants that big? A lot better than conspiracy/cultivation charges and anal rapage every night.

yeah having been cross country a few times, and through the checkpoints in california, i would have to say this is a pretty bad idea. the plants arent even close to being worth the trouble youll get in if you get caught. and getting crimes in states other than your residency is a pain in the ass.

That being said, ive been back and forth 3 times now, and never been pulled over, or searched at a checkpoint. i just take 'er easy and play by the rules when driving.

It wouldnt be so bad if you had a little baggie of crank or something that could easily be 'disposed of'. but 10inch plants are kinda hard to get rid of in a pinch, man.
