According to Mapping the Mycelial Network, on the front page of The Shroomery, under General Information, Psilocybin/Psilocin containing mushrooms that have been found in New Mexico are as follows: Gymnopilus liquiritae Gymnopilus luteofolius Gymnopilus sapineus Gymnopilus spectabilis Panaeolus papilonaceus Psilocybe azurescens(this is because this mushroom was introduced, meaning that it was cultivated in an outdoor bed in New Mexico. This means that it did in fact grow outdoors, not that it was found in the wild. Although, there is a possibility that the mycelium and/or spores may have possibly spread and could possibly be found growing wild, but not likely) OK, the Gymnopilus species can be found on rotted wood, probably logs and stumps. Mushroom Johns web-site has a few pics of Gymnopilus species, as well as a few members in this forum have shown pics within the last few weeks. I have only found one species of Gymnopilus and only one time about this time last year, Gymnopilus luteofolius. Also, I didn't pick any specimens, nor did I take pics, although I wish I would have. I should go check the spot pretty soon to see if they came up this year! Panaeolus species, such as Panaeolus papilionaceus, can be found in grassy areas such as fields and lawns. I believe they also grow on rotted haystacks in the spring and early fall. Hope this helps, fuzzy! Stay cool and good luck!-Levi7.

Shellact, have you found and eaten the Gymnopilus species? Just wondering. What, they are relatively weak and of horrible taste? I don't think I've read that before! What else do you know about Gymnopilus species? I wanna learn, learn, learn from you about your Gymnopilus experiences! Do go on, do go on! Stay cool!-Levi7.
