One of my fellow students served it up to Supreme Suckass Scalia
    #4054343 - 04/14/05 01:09 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Antonin Scalia is a fuckhead

April 14, 2005 -- WHEN U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (above) spoke Tuesday night at NYU's Vanderbilt Hall, "The room was packed with some 300 students and there were many protesters outside because of Scalia's vitriolic dissent last year in the case that overturned the Texas law against gay sex," our source reports. "One gay student asked whether government had any business enacting and enforcing laws against consensual sodomy. Following Scalia's answer, the student asked a follow-up: 'Do you sodomize your wife?' The audience was shocked, especially since Mrs. Scalia [Maureen] was in attendance. The justice replied that the question was unworthy of an answer."

"One gay student asked whether government had any business enacting and enforcing laws against consensual sodomy. Following Scalia's answer, the student asked a follow-up"

So what was his answer? And why does this thread have 11 out of 11 off topic replies?

Does the Pub have any staying-on-topic rules, or is it just a neutered OTD?

the pub can often be a neutered OTD, yes. I wish they would take it and leave it in OTD or IRC.

I assumed the reason to post an article about a major political figure would be to provoke thoughtful replies and have a discussion; not to converse with smileys and talk about an avatar.

I guess I was wrong?

Actually you were completely right, but you know...sometimes shit happens and people ask unrelated questions. But if you have some comments about the article, I'd love to hear them.

I just think it's great that a gay person stepped up to the plate and held Scalia to task on the issue while at the same time humorously making him uncomfortable. Great place for it to happen too, since NYU's gay community is extremely vocal.

I would like to know what his answer to "whether government had any business enacting and enforcing laws against consensual sodomy" was. There had to be some glaring hole in Scalia's logic if he believes the government has a right to enforce laws against sodomy. It's basically a 9th and 10th Amendment issue (I think), and someone should have pursued that further, just where in the Constitution is permits the government to infringe on consentual, sexual acts of the people.

I think the follow-up question was immature and obscene for the sake of shock-value. Scalia was right in saying the question wasn't worthy of an answer.

Unfortunately the NYU official newspaper's site is down or else I'm sure they'd have a more detailed article than the crap writers at the post. Once it's back up I'll post if I find out what his answer was.

I don't think it's out of line at all to knock the high-and-mighty down with low talk.
