"Peace Of Mind" fuck up
    #4010010 - 04/03/05 08:13 PM (19 years, 17 days ago)

I messed up with my mp3 of the month, there. It was The Beatles - "Peace Of Mind". This is a song that I've seen on bootlegs. There's even a bootleg named after it. Well, I'm getting more and more convinced that this wasn't a Beatles song at all.

Phumfeinz asked me what album it was from today, and I told him that it was an unreleased song and not from any album. I started looking around for proof that it was a Beatles song and realized that I didn't have much. No reputable site listed the song as being authentic and I found a site that said this......

Quote:

A compilation album entitled Supertracks proved not to be so super, as the supposed Beatles outtake Peace Of Mind (allegedly recorded Jun 67 and found in a garbage can in 1970!) turned out to be merely some stoned bootleggers with a tape recorder and too much time on their hands. When the inevitable Peace Of Mind album came out, it at least offered up two new songs from the amazing 16 Jul 63 Pop Go The Beatles - Lend Me Your Comb and Carol - in abysmal sound quality.

So I don't have proof of it's authenticity either way. Therefore, I have replaced it with a song that I know is an actual rare Beatles song. This site says this about that.........

Quote:

Circles

(Harrison)

Recorded: 30th May 1968. Location: Kinfauns
Musicians: George Harrison - acoustic guitar

Another one of the Kinfaun demos. It was slated for a spot on the White Album, but didn't appear until George's Gone Troppo LP in 1982. It has never been commercially released, and is only available on Beatle bootlegs.

First released in the UK: Never released
First released in the US: Never released

Sorry to get your hopes up folks. Please re-title the track you downloaded as being a fake, or delete it. Here's the lyrics to the new song.............

Quote:

"Friends come and friends go
as I go round and round-in circles
Love warms and love colds
as I go round and round-in circles

He who knows does not speak
He who speaks does not know
As I go round in circles

Life comes and life goes
as we go round in-in circles

He who knows does not speak
He who speaks does not know
As I go round in circles

Life comes and love goes
As we go round and round-in circles"

Yeah, I posted it on a Beatles forum, and I was told it was fake. Such a shame, it's a great tune. It really does sound like The Beatles too.

Why does it matter who it's by if the music is good?

Wow, I can't believe I just found this out.  I've thought this was real for a couple of years.   Thanks for asking me about it.  If you hadn't, I would have gone on for who knows how long telling people it was real.

What did the Beatle forum guys say, BTW?

Peace of Mind is sometimes known as The Candle Burns.

A tape of it was supposedly rescued from an Apple garbage bin, and is said to be a Pepper-era outtake, possibly from June 1967.

For years it was a staple on 70s and early 80s Beatle bootlegs.

However, it isn't the Beatles at all. It's available in very varying sound quality on old boots, and some web sites. None of the recordings is really good quality. And the iffy quality makes the voices a little murky, and if you want you can convince yourself that John is lead singer, with Paul & George well in there too.

But it's pretty clear to my ears that it's not the Fabs! Pity actually, as it's a song with much potential - it has a shivery vibe.

Wow, "Circles" is incredible. Do you know why it, along with "Sour Milk Sea" and "Not Guilty" were never recorded? Was it because John didn't like George's songs?

I'm pretty sure "Circles" was recorded.

I have no idea why those songs weren't released, other than the fact that the songs they did release are a little better.

Well, it was never professionally recorded. You probably knew this, but after the Beatles returned from India, they met up at George's apartment with his four-track tape recorder and recorded 23 of their songs. These were then professionally re-recorded for the white album (except for "Child of Nature," "What's The New Mary Jane," "Circles," "Sour Milk Tea," "Not Guilty," and "Junk."

And for the record, "Circles" > "Wild Honey Pie."

I just ordered the Anthology 1 + 2 cd's. I've been changing my mind for the past 5 hours now deciding whether to get these or Doom 3. Argh I hate not having much money.

They still sell CDs? I'll be damn. Here's the Harrison Gone Troppo version of "Circles". No where near as good, in my opinion, but I'll let you make your own decision on that.

Thanks for the new link, finally got it to work. Amazing song. Reminded me why George is my favorite Beatle, though it cycles between him and John, everytime I listened to the Brainwashed album I'm reconvinced. Great track.

George was the man. He stayed spiritual until the end, too.
