Morning glory seed germination
    #3949648 - 03/21/05 05:34 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Do i treat them like HBWR seeds?

Soak & scarify?

I just planted 4 of them without doing anything prior, do i have any chances? I had them for more than a year too  :smirk:

I think your chances are great, they are a real easy plant to grow. Mine usually pop within 5 days or so without any scaring. I just plunk em in the dirt and away they go and I do mean away, these suckers take over everything. Make sure you have a good site for them with plenty o space. Other than that they are a piece of cake. Happy gardening

Nah, they grow like wildfire.
I've got about 10 square feet of lawn next to my neighbors garden that is just constantly mowed morning glories in the summer.....and it's spreading...

put a couple in a glass and WATCH them sprout!  well nto really, but in 1 day they will usually sprout, few days you will have roots and a lil plant.  intensly fast growing weed.

even easier than pot

I usually use the wet paper towel method that most people normally associate with marijuana growing. I've had tons of success with that, but I think it would be harder to stop morning glories from growing than to make them grow.

If you get one to grow you will be killing hundreds each year after trying to stop them from taking over. I've gotten the "trotts" the last few times and don't really want to try again, but know I will. Best method has been about 1/4 cup (about 600 seeds?) in a blender with ice cream for a milkshake. I get more joy looking at the flowers in the morning than ingesting them. Lots of bees around in the summer and the occasional hummingbirds. I'd take one hummingbird sighting to 20 LSA doses.

They are very common flowers, I bet you can find them at any local garden shop, I got mine at a shopping market.

cause they so speedy and tough.

all i would recomend is always use a sealed pot and watch out for stray vines touching the ground (which will eventually send roots). the roots are far far bigger, if left to roam free, than the plant. which is why its so damn hard to kill.

i love them but i jsut cant keep them after my many many years trying to eradicate them.

If you don't want to fuck up ypur garden i would plant them in a  few in a large pots.  I know a guy who grew the morning glories on one side of the yard and within a few years the roots spread to the other side and started sprouting every were.  Now he has to weed out the morning glories from his other plants every year.  I put mine in a few large pots and put lattuce (sp?) in them.  Just like tomatoes, I just made them a lot taller. :rasta:
