i read somewhere that you can't buy that species in gardening places, but you can in the grocery area for baking... either way i can't seem to find them in either place at any stores, if anyone knows a good place to find them i'd appreciate it.

You can probably start with doing a search for the genus and species. Then you should be able to more easily find the information on the alcaloids that one in particular contains.

I just got given a couple of poppy varieties that I need to look up before I stick them in the ground.

I think you should get seeds from an online shop and get a good strain. They shouldn't cost too much, and will be way worth the price. I believe a lot of store brands of poppies are grown to contain less alkaloids.
