    #3947147 - 03/21/05 12:39 AM (19 years, 12 days ago)

If so lemme know, what do you think of it?
As far as I've seen it, it looks like a major improvement.

i got a couple of problems with reason.

been using reason for about 4 years now. first and foremost is it's sound engine. you mix down a tune in reason and bounce it out, it sounds like shit. no matter what you do, its always gonna sound like shit. not that that matters anymore since i record all my tunes from reason to my mixer and straight to tape now, i have no reason to bounce, but fuck, it would certainly be convenient not to have all the high end lost everytime i wanna export a song directly from reason.

another problem i have with it is that you cant use vst's without rewiring into cubase. since i have cubase and whenever i do bounce directly to disc, its through cubase, but still, it whores out my cpu.

ive heard through the grapevine that theyve updated the sound engine. this could be wrong though. the only new differences in the new reason shit that makes any sort of a difference is the m-class mastering system. who knows if that shit is official, too. thier original compressor was trash and ive come by very few computer based compressors that didnt suck but the reason compressor was one of the worst. that distortion box is alright sometimes but really fucks up the eq's on alot of things and it makes drums sound like trash.

it will be nice tho to be able to use more than one midi controller without switching back and forth between devices in preferences everytime you wanna use a different one. other than that, nothing new, nothing to get that damn excited about. 3.0? might as well call it 2.8, cuz there really isnt anything different.

if they made another synth or two, that would be frikkin awesome. the subtractor and maelstrom are genius guys, i love those synths. very nice and simple to build sounds from the ground up. not the most sophisticated synth out there, but that's whats nice about it, can build a new sound in seconds.

let's see some vst support (i know its hard to keep things stable with vst's, but fuck, reason is the only major sw prod program out there that doesnt support it) and a more developed sound engine. then ill begin to rave about it.

i've moved away from reason in the past year. i agree, i can't stand it's sound engine.

all i use anymore is an mpc2000xl, cubase SX3, vsts, a midi controller and tons of records.

can you explain that a little more? what has learning reason better have to do with the sound engine?

what exactly is a sound engine?

I would like to rewire reason with cubase sx, but first I will have to buy myself a new pc that can hande to run those two programs at the same time. First have to find a bigger place to live-->then buy pc and other interesting toys :smirk:

I learned to combine certain things in reason to improve the audio quality so that the eventual output is good.

The sound engine is the process between playing the set in reason, and the wav output.

BTW..

Was just checking the reason/prop. site and they already found the first bug.
The damn program is only freshly shipped and the first bug has been found.
A very serious bug btw, see here.

well it also depends on how you run reason, i could see the output coming out of a mini jack not sounding as good as you like, but if the levels are correct the output should be ok.
and if you run reason through rewire your signal levels can be more properly managed, not to mention cubase or pro tools will be a better mixing environment.

and for the price and for what it is , reason functions about how you would think it would.

your getting many pieces of a studio for the price of about a 10th of a keyboard, it's not too bad.

plus it's a great way to teach people about patching and routing signal.

no.  the sound that is exported for the final mixdown in reason is never up to my standards.  every sound engine is different, and no matter "how you learn to work with" any of them, you're not going to change their sound.

this is true. once you export the loop within the reason sound engine, the high end is toast. period.

so that's it! sometimes when I export a song as a audio file from reason I think wft happened here... now I know it's the sound engine  (....)

It makes sense though, Reason is more of a composition tool right?

it's not really an opinion, but it's a fact.

I suppose your standards for quality are lower than phoshaman's

Reason is REALLY bad for mastering.
There's a 'reason sound' that most pro-producers and pick out within' 2 seconds of a track.
I suggest you use Reason to make sounds. (as you can make alot of cool sounds with it)
But then sample these and do you're mastering in something like Pro Tools or Fruty Loops or Cubase.

Bliss

This thread is going off topic, I just want to know about reason 3.0
I think reason is a great program, and combined with ableton it is a very powerful device.

If there is anyone on here that has tried 3.0 please let me know.
