finding emo?
    #3803312 - 02/19/05 03:12 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I was just wondering if anyone else here likes any emo bands? I like shredding and hardcore and punk and even classical, im definately open to alot of musical categories. But lately I have re-gained alot of emo spirit and have been listening to thursday and thrice and some other talented (imho) bands.

I just wanted to know what everyone else's thoughts were on emo? Most people hate it and say its too whiney, but it's a very unique style, and quite soothing when your going through some emotionaly painful times.

I satisfy my emotional music desires with groups like explosions in the sky, mono, elliot smith, karate, last days of april, thursday(still one one the emocore bands I listen to), low, mogwai, sigur ros, modest mouse, appleseed cast etc.
I used to listen to a lot of "emo" that was released in the early 90's. then it became a fashion and was mixed with crappy poppy punk and other stuff and I found shelter in indie rock.

there will probably be lot of flaming on the so called "emo kids" and I believe it has come to a point where it deserves it. the latest releases are mostly like a joke and full of crappy lyrics.

i like emotional folk rock, that's about it. something happened to the emo scene. it went like 3 different directions, you have those idiot screemo bands, the good old classic emo rock, and then you have stuff like bright eyes which is turning back into emotional folk.

anyway i like folk.

That is seriously the most short-sighted comment I have ever heard. Who the hell are you to judge music? Let ALONE a certain type.

You try doing 1/10 of what those guys do in the studio and on stage.

Yeah, I sound like a mean mark, but come on. Open your mind to the option that your taste in music doesn't deem a certain genre of music to be the epitome of greatness, or most detestable for that matter.

Oh yeah, I listen to the kind of bands you hate, pal.

And if "emo" means emotional, fuck my ass then. Everything in this world, let alone music is based on emotion. No matter how intense or subtle it may be.

How many emo kids does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Twenty.  One to screw in the lightbulb and nineteen to whine about it.

There are a couple of good emo bands out there. Sunny Day Real Estate were the peak of the genre.

emo is just as ridiculous a sub-genre as alternative, both of which can describe.. well, any music!

Golden band and Promise of Love are my favorite albums, but get what you can...

they are not emo persay... but i can tell you would enjoy them by the wide variety of music you listen too.

I would not so much label it as a sub-genre. emotional music can be found in folk, classical, rock, and even rap.

"emo" isn't just bright eyes, yellow card, some indie you don't know but sounds like "weird rock" so you call it emo

or some band from the www.emogame.com game, which is pretty funny I recommend you guys play it.

emotional music can be found in almost every artist.

You are going to find a lot of haters on emotional music. Its just like the Mods and Vespas VS Rockers and Motorcycles in the 60's and 70's. Why? Because big burly men don't like girly music. haha. but don't forget that the real men wear pink.

Then it is a pretty dumb classification. There is surely no music that doesn't try to be emotional?

Edit: or pretend to be emotional.
