First check out this interview with Bob Weir, and at the end he says
Weir says if the surviving Dead members are to tour again this year, it will be a "modest summer run."

keep in mind, it's only February 3rd. I will begin to get worried in March/April if dates arent announced.

This is from philzone.com
Are The Dead Dead? Phil Er Up! Word has it that The Dead does not plan to have much action in 2005. We hear rumors that we can be sure to expect a big Summer Festival a la Terrapin Station, but rampant rumors of a major tour to celebrate 40 years may have been nothing but heresay. Some new rumors in suggest more Phil & Friends action in early 2005 and possibly a lot more this year. Say your prayers, send out your cosmic energy, be good little boys & girls and who knows, maybe this rumor will come true!...

That is sad news indeed.. but as stated in the later thread you linked:"You guys they are selling a 40th Anniversary Poster. 1965-2005 Bound to Cover A little More Ground.
Take it as you will." I will take it as a sign of hope! Even if they only do a family reunion I'm going to have to spring to catch it if I'm in the country. Prospects at this point in time do look slim for a full blown tour (also taken from the above thread):"Driftrift ~ I hope you aren't implying that I was being negative by sharing information. I didn't just make that up for something to whine about. I have been on GD/Dead tour for 14 years, and I had heard rumors that this summer would be their last tour, so I asked my friend to let me know as soon as he heard anything from "headquarters." I wanted to make my summer plans around it as I always do, as do most of my friends. By letting others know that they have decided not to tour, I feel that I am spreading the positive vibe by letting others know what's up. Believe me, I wish it weren't true, but it is. Sorry. The boys as a band have decided NOT to tour. There will be a family reunion, probably at Alpine, there may be another one (or ever two) as well. There is no full on Dead tour, and that is the decision they made, and they have a right to make that decision if that is what is best for them. Who knows, maybe it could change. As of right now, they're not doing it, and I know that for a fact. I will post when I find out more info if you all would like, but if posting the truth is going to make others think I am "sharing in negative vibes," I'll save it."

For you Deadheads...
I recommend checking out the Dark Star Orchestra. They are a GD coverband and they recreate concerts that the Dead have played. Song by song...they are preety damn good. It's not exactly the same, but I swear, close your eyes when you are there and it is tough to tell the difference.

What does that mean? I loved Jimmy Herring and he hit some licks that made tears of remembrance come to my eyes!! Man!! He can really hit that Jerry sound alot!! He was a helluva lot better than Warren, imho. Man, I hope they do one more tour. I'll be a crying man, if they don't.

Mannnnn, I saw DarkStarOrch at Deer Creek, and Keller Williams came back out on stage with them, after playing seriously 2 hours nonstop himself. Such badasses! then the following two nights were the end of the phish tour I believe...with Dave matthews or some shit...
-------------------- A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

Yeah..it's still ways off, I still have hope. Bobby's been real sick lately...so that's probably why they are taking it slow with the announcements.....ya know, not get everybody's hopes up and all.

Man my generation sucks ass. All the good things die in my generation, just like the Dead will soon be gone. People from the 70's have bad ass music and good cheap hallucinogenic drugs. People of the 90's have fuckin shitty ass rap, crack and meth. Not saying there isn't still good acid around just saying I was meant to live in the 70's! I hope they tour they are one of the last great idols of the culture.
