How long after rain should I wait to hunt panaeolus subbalteatus and are they in season yet? I'm in Missouri.

Hey, I'm also from Missouri! I've never picked Pan subbs in Missouri, though. Bummer. I believe they show up on rotted haystacks and possibly dung/straw compost in Spring. I think they will appear again in the fall. Maybe late August-early November. Hope you find some. Also, where at in Missouri? Stay cool!-Levi7.

Psilocybes seem to be rain hogs, they need lots of rain before they fruit. Panaeolus and copelandia are smaller mushrooms and can come up very quick, I'd say a day or two after rain would be optimal. One reason to wait a few days after rain is the tendency for Panaeolus mushrooms to be very brittle when wet, picking during wet conditions results in a messy, soggy collection of broken mushroom pieces. Let them dry for a day or two before picking.
