Ants in my Plants! *pics

Okay so i was about to go to school and I noticed a shitload of ants on my pitcher plant. They are just hanging out on it.

They have been there all day and they are just sleeping on the leaves?

what the hell, has anyone seen this before?

I checked to see if they were dead but they are not they are just hanging out.

The thing is the ants are suppose to go into the pitcher not hang out on the leaves and vines and I read that ants are too acidic for them to eat.

i dont know im confused.

Ants are a pain in the ass, usually I find aphids on my plants if ants are there. The ants shepard the aphids because aphid excretement is a delicacy to ants. They also make nests in my pots  :mad:

I've never heard of a beneficial nematode, are any ants making their way into the pitchers? I wouldn't worry unless your plant starts to look sick, maybe get angry at the ants and spray water on them they might leave?

they usually come to get some sap, really common in orchid grow houses, only real problem is they can bring other bug on them, and diseases. a would get a spray bottle a drop of soap, and spray them off then put down something to keep them away, ant rid, or diatomatious earth, thats good to have anyway, can keep fungus gnats out of your soil and it can kill all bugs on or around plants, but you can ingest it with no harm. everyone go get some DIATOMATIOUS EARTH> not the kind for swimming pools the kind for agriculture.

I'd get some of those ant-killer things where they enter, pick up the poison, and take it back to the rest of the ants.  We had a hell of bad ant problem in the house here for a while, and we got a package of that ant killer stuff at the hardware store.  They're attracted to it and man oh man, when I set those traps out did a TON of ants come out.  After like three days, though, I didn't notice ANY ants ANYWHERE and they haven't come back to this day, so I guess it worked :smile:.

zero was right they came to get sap, They are almost all gone, I have only seen like 2 or 3 still looking around.
