Should i be paranoid when useing IM programs?

Does anyone know if bigbrother monitors AOL Instant Messenger or ICQ messages? Is this something i should worry about or am i just to paranoid? =P

Think about it logically. how many people have AIM. How could you monitor it all.

You can't really monitor mail either.
You can search the SUPREMELY huge database of mail, find keywords "crack" "murder" "preteen", (I dont know anywhere that does that though..), and even then, you have LOTS AND LOTS of mail to sift through, to determine if the authorities should act upon it.

You can't really monitor mail either.
