The Wall

Saw it for the first time today. WTF?! Is it supposed to make sense? Half the time it almost felt like I was tripping. It was nuts!

It's loosely based around the band's original singer, Syd Barrett, who went insane and is now a recluse.

i absolutely loved that movie, especially the art work with the smashed up guitars, and were he has just jacked up and the docs break the door and start draggin him down the hall and body turns into decaying flesh with maggots squirming around, then turns into hitler.
freakin excellent

It sure intend to show how the gouvernement tend to make us a brick in the wall.

Of course there might be a deeper taught behind all that, but this is flagrant.

I dont see whats so hard to get. Its about a musician who lost his dad at an early age and eventually went nuts and became the thing he hated.

It's not just about how the government tends to make us erect a brick wall, but that might be one of the bricks in the wall. There's a long article/interview in the recent Guitar World the celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Wall's release (the album, not the movie) and the band members talk about making it and all the fighting and stuff.

The concept and mostly all of the lyrics and the majority of the music came from Roger Waters. It's about how horrible his life has been; how his father died in WW2 before he knew him, how his school teachers were horrible people, how his mother babied him, etc, etc and how it eventually made him slowly build a brick wall around himself, keeping him from normal interactions with people and how it drove him into an egomaniac and control freak in the end. So the music is based on the life of Roger Waters, but the movie is based off of an acid trip that brings up all these past memories, and that's why it's supposed to be relating to Syd Barrett in the movie.

There's some epic songs on the album, and some great ones too, but I don't really like the movie, especially not when tripping. IMO, it's too much like Roger's just whining and talking about how horrible he's had it. But besides that, the Wall's in my CD changer right now. Been in there the past few days too.

Indeed.

The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth...
