speaking from a perspective of someone who doesn't listen to or care about industrial anymore :
was influenced around the age of 11 ( 1991 ) by listening to weekend midnight radio on the "cutting edge" station. they played industrial and early techno music.
anyhow, i quickly got into front 242, kmfdm, ministry and a couple of other bands at the time. i never really did care for skinny puppy even though i owned some of thier albums, too dark park being one of the better ones i had but still wasnt into it too much.
while i was listenin to it, i think at just about the same time, all this music hit what i would say was a peak (while most of you would say it got watered down), ministry drops psalm 69, then front 242 comes out with fuck up evil and nin drops broken.
i never really considered nine inch nails part of the "industrial" scene. it was more like heavy metal with electronic elements. in fact, i dont even know what people mean by industrial anymore.
when i think industrial, i think of the time i saw sister machine gun live and the entire audience consisted of a bunch of goths standing around being bored as hell.
i also think of fat people in studded leather dancing like retarded fish to new order or bauhas or some shit while pretending to screw in lightbulbs and throwing thier arms over thier faces as if theyre being blinded by the light.
sounds like my kinda scene!
wait a second, what was i talking about again?

have you heard pretty hate machine? this album is nothing but pure industrial, with some new-wave mixed in of course.
broken was more industrial-metal.. but it definitely had an industrial feel to it. there was plenty of strange samples incorperated into the music, instead of generic drum machines that were being used by artists at the time.. which to me is totally an industrial thing.
i like nine inch nails. but i like skinny puppy much more. not because they were older or because they had more musical credibility, just because i think it sounds better.
one thing i do admit is that trent can probably write better lyrics than skinny puppy. they both have good lyrics.. but skinny puppy's have always sounded like stream-of-consciousness.. a very dark form of it. like they sat there, started writing and trying to use as many cool sounding words as possible, and then layed down a vocal track. it could just be me, but few of the songs had any real message or focus.
flea- front 242 are fucking awesome.
has anyone heard the industrial group Wumpscut?

NME Review of With Teeth
I generally have a bunch of disdain for the wiseasses at NME, but I'll post the link anyway.
