temperature fluctuation
    #3341672 - 11/10/04 03:14 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Ok, so I just bought a heating pad, and it turns out that it automatically shuts off after an hour, no way to change this. At normal room temperature my jars range from approx 67-72 Fahrenheit (reason I bought the pad). Will turning the heating pad on every now and then to raise the temperature and then letting the temp cool back to the 67-72 range do any harm to the jars by changing the temperature that drastically?

And by the way, for those of you who saw my myc pics the other and commented on my verm, I went out and bought the only other baggies I could find and it seems like theyre not quite as fine consistency so I'll let you know how those jars turn out when I get around to making em up.

Well with fluctuating temps like that you could potentially lose the temperature changing pinning trigger, but other than that your jars should still colonize like normal. It will probably take longer than it would at 86 degrees and there will be open substrate for contams for a bit longer, but there are no real problems with incubating with less than optimal temperatures.

You should be fine, just keep looking for another way to get your temps up to a more constant in the 82 - 86 range while using the tek you're using now.

I have another question too. It looks like even on the lowest setting my heating pad is getting hotter than 93.7 degrees (havent gotten a max temp yet as its still on). Is there any way to lower this somewhat? Put an extra cloth or two over the blanket maybe? And just as a side note from what the tek says cubes fruit so easily that temperature lowering isnt really necessary. Just a little light and mostly the humidity

Yea cubes do fruit easy.

And yes, you can just simply put more material between your heating pad and your incubation chamber.. or fruiting chamber, whichever is the case.

I also heat with a heating pad so I feel your pain man

I had around 3 inches of blanket material between my heating pad and my tub.  Brought it to a nice even 84 degrees though.

Good luck with your grow and hope I helped ya some!
