Una.. If I come to .nl will you teach me how to get such even flushes. That's just fantastic. I have a question about sclerotia production. Do you think my foaf would get good sclerotia production by filling a filter patch bag w/ 4 gallons of rye grass seed, then innoculating with a colonized jar of seed? Would it be better to add some casing material or something to the seed? Any advice would be appreciated..

fourtyounces2freedom: (i'm going write this down on our site sometime soon). Substrate was sterilised grass seed (110 grams seed, 180 ml water sterilised for one hour). Casing standard peat/vermiculite/lime casing soil. Mushrooms were grown in plastic bins with no active aereation at a temperature slightly higher than room temp. (22oC). egghead: That must be a really big bag if it can hold 4 gallons of substrate..(a gallon is close to 4 liters right?). Anyway....we also tried to grow tampanensis sclerotia in spawn bags but ran into problems with the mycelium producing yellowish metabolites that eventually drowned the mycelium. We don't have these problems with jars. Oh....there's no real trick to getting these flushes, just let the casing colonise a little and then expose them to air and light (no coldshocking is required).

Those FP bags are big.. 21" x 8 1/4" x 4 3/4" I appreciate the heads up on the metabolite buildup. That's a shame, because the bags are pretty space efficient.Edited by egghead on 05/29/01 09:38 AM.

I m looking! I m looking! Una, can you tell me, exactly in which way you use sclerotia? (i mean what do you do with them.?I know they can be saved for later fruitings, but ...is that it? like a long life print or something??? what else? how do you preserve it?how come it is so desireable?) Thanx for your time.

Hmm, more alike the first thing I'm gonna do when eating those, yummie. Someone told me they tasted like nuts, at first they might to seem tasting like nuts, but when longer in your mouth the sour aftertaste makes you wanna puke, lotsa juice will do the trick for me!
