REISHI spore 70 times more potent than the mushroo
    #3228050 -

I read in QI,The Journal of Traditional Eastern & Fitness, that Reishi spores are 70 times more potent than the Reishi mushroom itself is. Does anyone know this to be true. Reishi is a medicinal mushroom for those not knowing.

This is very interesting. I don't know if this is true personally, but I have also read several articles recently indicating the same thing. Here is a small excerpt of one from healthkingenterprise.com

"Research found that Reishi spores when broken are in deed more potent than Reishi. They are rich in proteins, 18 amino acids, polypeptides, polysaccharides, nucleosides, terpenoids, alkaloids, carbohydrates, germanium, vitamins and minerals. Extensive lab tests found that Reishi broken spores speed up T lymph cell transformation, enhance phagocytosis of macrophage and increase white blood cell, promote serum agglutination, raise activity of glutathione peroxidase in blood, inhibit metastatic tumor (S180 sarcoma), increase resistance to hypoxia, reduce cholesterol, etc, without side-effects.

Popular as they are, Reishi spores are very rare and the "breaking" of the spore wall involves high-tech processes."

There was also a article at www.mushworld.com about reishi where they mentioned the fact that spores are much more potent.

Interesting. . .Quite a few years ago I was in San Francisco/Chinatown.  They had amazing fungal fare, including giant 50 lb sacks of the best dried shiitake I've ever seen.  Anyway, I was purchasing some ling chi/reishi and noticed they were very dusty-looking [spores].  The woman told me the dustier they were, the better.  I remember thinking at the time it was probably some superstitious Chinese thing   More recently I was in the Chinatown in Vancouver, BC and was really excited to see these really cool, shiny, glistening black reishi for only 75 cents a piece.  The 'dusty' red ones were at least three times the price.
It makes me wish I'd harvested more of the reishi spore explosion I had recently.  I had one single fruit coming out of a bag and found spore residue around the fan intake of my docking station 20 ft away :frown:

I have no idea what the process is for breaking the spore wall. Apparently each company has their own super secret method. First they have to harvest the spores using a "specially designed electrostatic filters" and then only 1gm of spores can be collected from 1000g of mushroom. It must be a very expensive process considering I saw on one website one bottle of 100 300mg capsules of broken spores selling for, get this, $249.95! And that's the sale price!

>only 1gm of spores can be collected from 1000g of mushroom
so those salesmen say, but I just collected 3 grams from
one bag of substrate that weights about 1.5 kilos and those fruitbodies on it
obviously weighted a lot less..  :smirk:

I just shoveled them with a teaspoon from the bottom
of that basin that I used as a fruiting chamber...

Wow! That's an amazing haul of Reishi spores from your grow. I have often wanted to try growing them myself. They are so unique, if not bizarre, looking. Since the first post I have been researching (actually just poking around the web) the Reishi. It has a fascinating and four thousand year history as a Chinese medicine, as you know. The websites that sell the supplements claims it cures virtually every ailment known to man from Arthritis to Zits, followed, of course, by the ubiquitous disclamer "These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease"

I've seen mycobag type Reishi kits. I think that's the way I will go. What method did you use to grow your Reishi, Speeker?

"My method" doesn't differ much of this method of Una:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showthreaded.php/Cat/0/Number/1600202/an//page//vc/1

and as a substrate I have used also newspaper and used coffee grounds...
It's quite easy to cultivate..although my conk forms have not been
as beautiful as Una's..might be strain-dependent ..

This mushroom seems to be a very valuable medicine. I'm seeking ways to crack the spore walls,so that others and i may benefit from its health effects. If anyone knows how this could be done it would be appreciated by many.

Thanks, -M

Hey does any one know of a good reishi tek. I don't know much about how to grow it I think it's a wood lover... Can u use basic grain like rye seed or berry for spawn. Then what do u spawn to coco I'm guessing u wouldn't want horse manure. Lol

Use whatever grain you want and spawn to "bucket tek" pasteurized hardwood fuel pellets.  Lipa's tek is a good place to start.  (he does it in bags, not a bucket, but it really doesn't matter)

So, did anyone ever figure out how to break the spore's walls?

This place says they use a "low temperature fractioning process", but I'm not really sure what that means...
