Better than Bob Marley
    #3204498 - 10/01/04 04:21 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

Anyone ever listen to a band called Steel Pulse? I enjoy their music better than Bob Marley's, even though many consider Marley to be the greates reggae artist ever.
Anyways, just wondering if anyone has heard of them and agrees or disagrees with me

Steel Pulse is coming to my town soon, courtesy of the company I work for.
I might have to check them out

But, I don't know if there can be 'better than Bob Marley'?

I never heard them, but I think Bob Marley is most people's introduction to reggae, though not necessarily its greatest artist. If you listen to King Tubby or Scientist, you'll find some great reggae of a very different style, mon.

though king tubby and laswell's stuff is a great twist to the original tracks, it really shouldn't be considered reggae. i think they still retain that certain vibe, but once they've been dubbed, it's not really reggae anymore.

I can't believe a real reggae fan has not heard of Steel Pulse!! That blows my mind. Does everyone only listen to Marley and Tosh? There is so much great reggae, I don't know where to begin. How about Augustus Pablo, Hugh Mundell, Toots and the Maytals, Zion Project, or Natural Healing Tribe? Anyone interested in acquiring some good reggae, please contact me and I will be more than happy to share. I had the most intense and positive experience of my life while on mescaline and listening to Natural Healing Tribe. One of those experiences that transforms your very soul. I'm sure some people here understand. Natural Healing is a local reggae band, in case anyone is wondering. Big reggae scene around here.

To really get a feel for their talent, you should listen to a song called Worth His Weight In Gold (Rally Round). I think that they utilize their musical potential to the max in this one. Smoke a fatty and listen to that, you'll be set. The instrumental version kicks too.

i don't know if i would call bad brains indie.

but they're a great mixture of punk and reggae. i think i heard that Chuck Mosley (old singer of Faith No More) was in the band for awhile.
