Strathcona Park
    #3188012 -

I know locations are not allowed, but this is one huge damn park, so i think its ok.

Anywho i was out hiking in there this weekend and found a ton of mushrooms. no pics at my house yet, ill post those in a bit. not looking for ids as i didnt bring any home. just sharing.

Found some BEAUTIFULL fly agaric (also ate a bunch...which is why i didnt/couldnt pick anymore after that). man those things are kinda sticky and wrong. also pretty sure i found some cyans (only looked exactly liek them, didnt check into it at all). Lots of oysters but htey were some kind of midget species or somthing....i swear everything up there is midgetised.
Lots of boeletes, galerinas?, and even more LBM's. It was neat to see so many of a few species growing amongst the magical landscape. variety was crappy, but quantity was superb. great hike, great hunt, lots of cool finds.

well turns out we have lots of booz and food left over so im going out to the forest to finish it all off and have another short 1 night camp.  ill have pics up tomarow it turns out

well when i got the pics over i was asked about the mushroom pictures.  i was told i got drinking and deleted them all (not jsut the mushroom pics, all teh pics) and wanted to take pictures of the lake/mountains.  so i guess no ids are gonna be possible.

thats awsome they are up.  it is quite cool up there (another month and there will be a few feet of snow), so everything is fruiting it seems.  next time i see em ima get grabby

ps, if your still into coming up to bc hiking you should definatly look into this park.  god damn gorgeous!  if you want i can send you the link to my pics once they are up.

Hey brother man,

Be careful eating Fly Agarics fresh! Should dry them out first.

They are certainly not fatal, they just make you sick.

Also, some people have a natural tolerance to the toxins within the mushroom.

really?

why cant peopel eat em fresh? i didnt get sick at all (which is suprising as i have a very sensitive stomach). the rest are in the dehydrator now. not trying to sound liek a prick and doubting you, but how come they need to be dry?

I read that by drying them, the ibotenic acid (apparently makes you sick) is converted to muscimol.

Actually, the way Ibonetic Acid is converted to muscinol is when it travels through your liver and it reacts with the heat. The way to speed this process, and make it so the Ibonetic Acid is no longer there, only muscinol, is to simply dry them at 100-120 f. in an oven, for an hour or less, checking on them constantly. This will make the mushrooms crispy and nice, while getting rid of the bad toxins.

Ah, yes temperature is involved in the reaction also. Here's an article about it from erowid: http://www.erowid.org/plants/amanitas/amanitas_info_petri.shtml

scratch that, re read that article. he says weed makes the nausea go away, which everyone seems to say about everything. mayeb that is why i was never sick? was stoned to varing degrees teh entire hike, so maybe that was why. ill be doing them again this coming week, agian while camping. i really hope i find more, i think i just need to look in higher elevations. only 300 meters where i have been looking for everything so far, adn i foudn those at 1200 meters.
