you know what im talking about, that good junk the greek guys give you for yur gyro, does anybody know how to make it. if i could make that stuff, i would use it on everything. youd think a sauce that is sooooooo good would be more popular.  :thumbup:

GYROS SAUCE



1/2 c. grated cucumbers
1 c. plain yogurt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Squeeze cucumbers after grating.

Blend with yogurt and garlic powder.

Refrigerate to cool.

16 oz. sour cream
1 med. cucumber, pureed (puree in blender & strain to remove liquid)
2 cloves garlic, pressed
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar

The stuff ive always had is called Tahini sauce and is made from sesame seeds not cucumbers in most of the recipes I have found. Does anyone know what the difference is?

Tahini sauce is different than cucumber

it usually consists of tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and salt

i had that same problem... i love the cuke sauce but the local grecian gyro peddler refused to sell me any in quantity, so I tried to (successfully) steal the containers they give you when you order food to eat in, it worked for a while, till i got caught...sux cuz i liked their spinish pie

Its called tzatziki sauce, foo!

Shroomism's recipe is good, just make sure you get mediterranean yogurt.. Its much thicker. :smile:

And make sure you squeeze the water out! Runny tzatziki is nasty. =\
