Amanitas 2 times a year??
    #312133 -

Is it possible that the king of fungies ,can be found twice a year (in greece)?? Does it depend on the climate conditions?
I ve been on a mountain-hunt-trip, in autumn and found some...
(1500-1800 altitude) never been there in spring....i was wondering if the mycelium needs the summer before fruiting or , if just the same conditions(rain,temp,humidity....)occure, will be enough for me to run to the hills again... :) should i go and check??????? Does it depend on anything? Does it happen anywhere in the world?? Any hope?

You know, I've found Amanita pantherina growing practically everywhere around here(PNW) last spring. During fall season, I did find a few but not many and they fruited in the same magical places. So, for this species, I say yes. Although, I've never come across Amanita muscaria(besides the possibility of A. muscaria var. formosa that could possibly have been A. gemmata. It was old and nasty.) in my entire life. I see Destroying Angels pop up from spring all the way to winter in lawns. They could actually be two different species, though(like A. virosa and A. verna, etc.) and haven't really studied them due to lack of interest in their poisonous qualities.
Hope this helps some. Stay cool!-Levi7.

OK sterile, The National Audobon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms states that A. muscaria fruits from July-October, I gather common. A. muscaria var. formosa(yellow-orange Fly Agaric) fruits from late June-November. I hope that further helps you out. Stay cool!-Levi7.

I'have stayed 2 years in Greece and as I know everything grows two times a year.(including oranges) I have no reason to think that mushrooms, especialy this one, does not grow twice a year. If you find any, let me know.
