Proper methods for growing cactus from rooted cuttings

I just bought three 10" rooted San Pedros from BBB.  :smile:

Could someone could tell me the best ways to keep these cactus alive and start growing, or point me in the right direction to learn how.

Good quality cactus potting mix+Pots+water+sunshine.

Cactus are hardy,they like to live.

Ps. Introduce them to full sun slowly.

Go into the San Pedro section. Everything you need to know is there.

Another good guide is M.S.Smith's Closet Cactus Care, but i lost the URL. Someone might be able to link to it though.

Check also the nook forums. Great people that know a lot about our cacti friends.


Basically what you need to do is put them in a proper soil mixture (you can find a nice recipe in The Nook archives).
Give them plenty of water, lime and fertilizers during grow season. I feed every week, and water whenever the soil is dry (about 2 or 3 times a week).
If your soil drains well and has a slightly basic Ph, your cacti will love plenty of water and ferts and grow like nobody's business.


Mine had 3 branches that were about 3-4 inch average in may. Now 2 of them are over 1 foot, one is about 8", and meanwhile a new pup grew to about 4" :laugh:
(i thought i wouldn't have another dose in 2 years, appears i have like 3 new doses in a few months)
And that lifeform appears to be quite potent, judging by my trip a week ago  :crazy2:

I bet you'll love growing cacti  :smirk:
