Republican Dignity, where?
    #3090100 - 09/04/04 12:55 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Every speaker I heard while watching, and listening to the RNC mentioned 9/11, is it just me, or is that a shameless plug?

If my family member were killed in the attacks, I'd be up in arms, but I guess, as democrap, I'm up in arms already, so is it just me, or does anyone else think it was completely distasteful to use 9/11 as a rallying call?

its not just you, it is a shameless plug, and its obvious, despicable, illogical and totally effective on the millions of ignorant fools who comprise the voting public.

I think if 911 was the main catalyst behind your foreign policy, and worldview and was the time that best exemplified Bush's character, then I think it is fine. If they were exploiting 911 (which I don't really think they were) then it would be bad, but at the same time it is also problematic when people forget the lessons of the past. I think connecting Bush's policy in a linear way to the events of the past helped put things into perspective and give a better context for Republicans to convey their message.
I'm sure lots of people will proceed to flame me, call me an idiot, tool, fascist etc. but that is my opinion.

It all boils down to whether you think there is anything honest or genuine behind any particular party. So if you think Republicans are really evil and mean spirited, and everything they do is a facade, of course the 911 stuff is a shameless plug.
Of course, if you believe that then you've already made up your mind what you want to hear, so it's pointless for me even to make this post!

Of course they did it to exploit 9-11. In fairness, I'm sure the Democrats would have held their convention in Hanoi, Vietnam if it were politically feasible.

hehe

9-11, terrorism, and the War on Terrorism is the major issue in America today in my opinion. I couldn't imagine forgetting what happened on that day, or acting like it hasn't changed this nation. Some of you guys are in da Nile.

3,000 innocent dead, though tragic, is a drop in the pan in a country of 294 million and a world of 6.4 billion.

Too bad the electorate doesn't have your myopic vision of America!

The fine and decent people of this country do tend to care when we are attacked. We lost more people on 9-11 than we did at Pearl Harbor. It isn't an event that gets put away easily. You fuck with the bull, you get the horn.

Once we calm things down and Iraq is a stable democracy, I envision moving our bases out of Saudi Arabia. Iraq is more centrally located for military operations anyway. We need to get out of Saudi Arabia, we are too dependant on them in the region to take them on. Once we are allied with a free Iraq, things change. With friends like the Saudis, who needs enemies.

So you can see the US attacking their great friends the Saudi's once they have gained as much benefit from them as they can? Sort of like the way they did the same thing with iraq.

With friends like the US, who needs enemies?

The Saudis have been in control of all the wealth and power in the Arabian peninsula for quite a while. They can trace back their throne 21 generations. They rule with an iron fist. Revolution in the name of liberty has spread everywhere on earth except in the Muslim world (and a good deal of Africa).

I don't see us attacking anyone right off the bat. I think that Syria and Iran could fall to internal revolutions before the Saudis do, but I think that revolution is inevitable. A hard rain is a gonna fall. The pressence of a free and stable Iraq will help that along. We probably won't have to do anything. Just the freedom of the Press in Iraq is going to change things in that region.

Too bad the yanks have been closing down newspapers already and Al-Jazeera are being severely restricted by the new puppet government.
