2 Shroom IDs(no pic, I'll do my best)

a. Habitat: Florida, Grew near a shaded hedge/big tree.
b. Characteristics of the gills: Brown gills, attached.
c. Measurements of cap and stem: Cap-about 10cm. Stem-somewhere between 5-10cm(I cut it in half from the spot)
d. Characteristics of the stem: White, when squeezed it basically falls apart, thick and hollow.
e. Characteristics of the cap: Bronze, almost leathery feel, has a rounded-flatness to it(convex?).
f. Spore print color: light chocolate brown(clay brown)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises: No apparent bruising in stem.

I dont really know what to say about the smell, sorry! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Edit: Took out one of the I.Ds due to me throwing out the pretty specimen :frown:.

After looking through the limited gallery from the Index, I'd say Inocybe aeruginascens comes very, very close to my(first)shrooms description, and it looks just like it except without any tears in the cap. If it is in fact Inocybe aeruginascens, then I'll head back over to the spot because there was about 10 more nice ones!

Reasons(pasted from index)
-Season:June through October....Its Aug. currently :smile:
-Distribution:Distributed[...]North America...Im in Florida
-Habitat:In sandy soils...I found the shrooms in dirt/sand.
-Sporeprint:Clay brown...that would be a good name for the color I see.

I'd just like a comfirmation as all the lingo they use in cap/stem is alien language to me right now, and I don't want to mistake a poisonous shroom for a "euphoric", happy Inocybe aeruginascens. :smile:

Edit:Another possibility is the lovely Psilocybe cyanescens..Still looking around for similiar pictures. I still have no clue on the white shroomie though, as I found it totally alone(albeit a good specimen).

your mushrooms could be of any number of genera including Inocybe.

Inocybe is a vast genus with hundreds and hundreds of species [almost all of dubious edibility] and they are exceedingly dificult to seperate.

I. aeruginescens is unlikely, for many reasons. first and foremost is that this species is exceedingly rare. next is that the season is wrong. this species, allong with many with this genus, has a prominently conic cap becoming expanded and umbonate in maturity.

it will not be P. cyanescens as P. cyanescens does not grow in florida, does not grow in the summer and bruised blue heavily. the spore print color is also wrong.

I see, thanks for pointing that out man. Since the index is kind of limited, is there a fairly easy way to get some sort of database on mushrooms that I could look through and match similiar ones? I will be able to get pictures of the now-drying specimens later tonight, though most of them are already getting discoloured. Im going to go ahead and edit out the 2nd shroom I.D since I recently threw it out.

update: 2 more possibilities and a thought...it could be either Psilocybe stuntzii or even some weird type of Galerina venenata...I think im going to get those pics to you guys a.s.a.p, as I'd rather just throw them out if theres a chance of poison.

Mushroom Expert isn't a bad starting place. what you want is a good field guide with dichotomous keys. while it can work, comparing descriptions, and especialy pictures is a long tedious proccess and it's reliability is only as good as the photos or descriptions. if you where to do that, you could have to compare from dozens to hundreds of descriptions to be sure of an id [unless you got lucky] to be able to be certain of an id [believe it or not, many different soecies can fit the same description and often do].
