I wonder about the future of LSD and what its actual importance might be when it comes to therapeutic utility. To put it more simply... What does LSD do for people that mushrooms, 5-MEO-DMT and ketamine don't?
Mushrooms are "natural" and are much safer than LSD, physically. They probably also have a bunch of health benefits outside of the psychiatric benefits. They've been around forever and have as much observed history as any entheogen.
Ketamine is the hot new thing, being fast-tracked to market once its powerful antidepressant and antianxiety effects were discovered clinically. Ketamine seems to be much safer than traditional psychedelics, being more predictable and less likely to cause "bad trips". Ketamine also has the advantage of short duration of action, so people can do sessions in less than an hour like it's just another errand on their list.
LSD comes with an enormous amount of baggage and stigma, and it probably also poses a greater risk when it comes to things like schizophrenia. A big chunk of the population would probably not want to take LSD, no matter how good the research looked.
So, with mushrooms and ketamine quickly becoming staples of western medicine, and people flying across the world to smoke toad venom, I have to ask... What role will LSD play in the future? Why is it important? Is it going to end up being some long-lost mythical drug that people take just for nostalgia?
I have seen K ruin so many lives. That shit is fucked as far as a drug goes. I would sooner recommend alcohol for therapy and I would never do that. I really don't see the safety there at all, in fact quite the opposite.
I am also very confused about your implied and vague blanket statements about the safety of lsd. These seem like stereotypical media slander.
5MEO-DMT is another one that is way more iffy than lsd. Blood pressure issues, flailing around on the floor in another dimension. Serotonin syndrome, and other issues as well. Large potential for bad trips, etc. Still much safer than a lot of psychs but not as safe as lsd.
The reason lsd, despite being illegal pretty much everywhere, still exists in abundance (maybe moreso than ever in history) today is because it is hands down one of the safest and most beneficial psychedelics that has ever existed. It is not abundant because it is easy to make, addictive, and has no value as a therapy tool. It is abundant because it is great and people are willing to risk a lot just to share it with the world. The prices in the current world are rock bottom and nobody is getting rich off of it so there must be some kind of love there.
K is addictive as fuck, plays hell on hormonal systems long term, causes oxidative damage to the nervous system, and there are more active variants and synth processes than you can shake a stick at, each having its own fucked up long and short term side effects. K is also very easy to step on and is rarely of high purity without a good hook. LSD on the other hand is what it is and is not easy to adulterate or contaminate or end up with a lot of residual byproducts in the final stuff. I wish people would stop touting K as some miracle cure with no downside.
Ever want to see a grown man sob for three days straight in a deep depression and state of agitation, fear, and suicidal thoughts? just give him enough K for a week long binge and then cut him off cold turkey... Put some K in a locked glass case in front of him and leave the room for an hour...lol Smashy smash.
Chlorinated benzene is super good for you and your mental health. (it is not)
K is a gross ass shit show. K houses are just as nasty as heroin houses. People who are into K are pushy about how great it is and reactive when met with disagreement. These are all classic shitty drug addiction issues. my 2c.
Oh, personally, I’m an acid guy. 😂
My point is basically that I’m worried acid will get skipped over, as far as mainstream medicine is concerned.
