LSD is defs crazy times and for the hardcore shaman. Where psilocybin is 100 years into the future, LSD is like 500 years into the future.

The dose response curves of the two are very different.

A heroic dose of LSD (1000ug) is hard due to body load.

And a heroic dose of psilocybin (50mg+) will melt your ego.

But I certainly don't claim the title of hardcore shaman. As that's not my spiritual tradition and I'm not indigenous.

However, like a lot of the middle aged and older heads on this board, I have taken large doses of both a number of times.  Of the two, I find LSD an easier trip.  And a more difficult recovery.

I mentioned this in another thread.

I was really fascinated by that, also.

My take is that there are a bunch of ways to get from point A to point B. These drugs are one of them. But, that guy was probably “already there”, after a lifetime of intense spiritual practice that didn’t involve drugs.

That would be pretty cool, but LSD can't be absorbed transdermally easily. The skin needs to be damaged and solvents need to be used with a high purity solution. It's not easy to do on purpose.

It makes the discovery of LSD even more extraordinary. It's like it wanted to be discovered. An amazing chain of improbabilities.

Breaking news: LSD was, is, and always will be king.

I have no idea how things will play out as far as big pharma medicalization, but I’m now pretty skeptical that anybody is going to develop an analog better than the original. There’s nothing to improve.

I'm an anxious person that has endured decades of stress.  Psychedelics with strong dopamine agonism aren't my jam.  The body load alone often means days pf recovery, not after glow, recovery.

In fact, I find LSA better suited for my temperament than LSD.  So from my perspective LSD isn't an improvement on what nature provides.

However, if someone had more of a depressive temperament or was struggling with depression, I could see how LSD might be better for them.

It's about context, and a person's individual neurochemistry and needs.

You can love LSD.  I love Pan Bisporus.  But I don't assume that what suits me suits everyone else.

I’m bipolar, and my primary symptom is crippling depression/fatigue that prevents me from functioning. Sometimes I just can’t get up and do things because my body simply won’t move.

LSD seems to have completely fixed this problem.

Shrooms also rock, but I just felt I should mention that my perspective on LSD has changed drastically in a short period of time.

Is LSD more dopaminergic than psilocybin? I’ve never looked into it.

I got a lot of enjoyment out of LSD, as well as some real insight and perspective shifts.

And I'd love to take it with my partner again sometime.  As I always enjoyed dancing and sexy time on it.

But generally, I find the body load an ordeal anymore.  And the excitement from the dopamine feels more like stress and less like fun then it did when I was younger.

Day dreaming on some mushrooms or something like LSA I find more enjoyable.

Anyway, my point is different strokes for different folks.

I didn't read this whole thread so I apologize if I'm being redundant; I just wanted to mention something that elfstone had to say on the matter. Possibly true, food for thought at the very least.

"LSD is chemically similar to both a phenethylamine and a tryptamine and has that psychostimulant euphoria effect, but it also lasts 12 hours and has a tail end to it that is not very pleasant; you want it to be over.  Dave Nichols tells me that he hypothesizes that LSD is metabolized into another compound that results in that tail end jangly type of feeling."

Tree frog makes good points about getting older & recovery when it comes to L.

It lasts too damn long! 🤷🏻🤣

Not only is the recovery fairly brutal -a few days to feel grounded for some- feeling drained, grumpy for a few days -- disrupted sleeping routine etc.

Hypothetically, even if you could bypass that recovery phase, not many people with jobs, children, or other responsibilities can justify a 12-14 hour trip more than once or twice a year - special occasions only.

That's why I'm such an outspoken person for mexicana sclerotia*. Proselytizing ad nauseam for it. 🤣

For those who wish to 'worship' often or have a loving relationship with the Divine (or whatever you want to call it), L just isn't a sustainable sacrament for most.

If L is the equivalent to a week's vacation, sclerotia is a day trip to the aquarium or a long matinee movie. You can easily fit that in weekly and it doesn't disrupt your daily grind/family life; it enhances/enrichens it - which is the main point for many who partake. Making the mundane magical, because it is! 🫶🏻🥰

*Sclerotia is just my example of perfection (for me), your prefered entheogen may be different... sorry I hijacked this thread.

I don't find the antidepressant effects of psilocybin as prolonged or pronounced, which is why I keep coming back to LSD. The whole thing from the moment it locks in feels like relief and can last 4-6 weeks.

That's legit Northerner, valid point. 👌🏻

You're right! I didn't account for micro dosing, which is certainly beneficial for many...and where the long duration would be a positive. Thank you for that.

Not sure if that's what you were implying but even so, I'm glad it helps you. 🙌🏻 Like anything else, it's a relationship & everyone is different.

That reminds me...I can say that 'something' in ps. subtropicalis has a wonderful afterglow effect that isn't present in many other species.

Bisporus tends to be a short trip too.  I did eat a lot of stones before I got into them though.

And I still like a small dose of tamps before bed.

I guess I just find mushrooms more relaxing, and since I'm on the anxious side of the scale it's not depression I need relief from. And LSD usually leaves me with multiple days of a bad body tension.  Because it's something I live with anyway, and LSD or other excessive stimulation, triggers it.

I do miss it for sexy time and hope to take it with my partner again someday.

In the past, I would have said that LSD definitely has more body load than psilocybin. I remember my legs feeling really weak and noodley, and my nose would get cold.

The L I have right now seems to have basically zero body load. I’m not sure why. Is that related to quality?

When I was a drinker, I was really sensitive to the “quality” of alcohol. A top shelf vodka or whiskey would give me a much clearer buzz, and less of a hangover. The cheap stuff made me feel like I had a concussion.

The same batch can give you heavy body load on another trip. The symptom appears to be circumstantial.
