I suppose that would depend on what you're intending to chat about. :shrug:

The classic IRC cohort seems to talk mostly about typical life happenings... food, politics, travel, creative endeavors, etc.

Signal is generally considered a leader in secure communication, end to end encryption, and although the app does connect with your phone number, others you communicate with won't see your phone number, and any information passed through Signal's servers is encrypted on your device before it leaves, so they won't have any intelligible communication to/from you retained.

I used to nerd out writing scripts and shit for mIRC, I'd get up early in the morning on weekends before my parents woke up and farted around with mIRC and had some really interesting friends back in the day
