Chemogenetics at the Sternson Lab at UCSD

Thought this was a kind of cool thing that some people here might want to read about. At the very least the Sci-Fi potential is endless. Huxley would have loved this (the passage Pharmacology and Propaganda in Moksha comes to mind). I was thinking about what one could do to make a drug that would make oneself truly psychologically superior in some way. If we could make synthetic receptor cells that could signal our brains to do whatever we desire without tolerance building and withdrawals and the like. As it happens, there is a lab at UC San Diego working on research in synthesis of synthetic receptor cells. Literally synthetic receptors that could correspond to otherwise inert molecules that would signal selected pathways in the brain. As I mentioned before, Huxley would have loved this. The field is called Chemogenetics, and the lab is lead by Dr. Scott Sternson.
