Government owning stores is not the government owning the means of production of goods.  It's not communism in any way whatsoever.

I think you missed my point. These are the policies that Fox news and MAGA are calling Communist.

I didn't know you were making a point.  I wasn't replying to you.  It's not all about you, you narcissistic fuck.

Direct government farm program payments in the U.S. are now $55 billion per year.

The government does not have to own anything in order to control it.

Are you calling Kirk wholesome?

And the fact that Kirk was able to ride that line while saying abhorrent, hateful, and often downright stupid things is WHY he became so popular and attracted so much money, interest, and support.

What's the prices in the grocery store comrade.

They are supposed to be cheaper than regular grocery stores. I guess we will see.

Since the city owns them they don't have to pay rent.

I saw a breakdown once and it discussed how some grocery stores make 1 or 2% profit, so how can such a grocery store save 30%?

There's a lot of over head costs that wouldn't need to be paid, and that 1 or 2 percent is only pure profit, after accounting for beaurocratic expenditure.

How do you know the city owns the building?  How do you know any given grocery store doesn't? This argument is fully unsupported.

What overhead does a privately owned store pay that a city owned one wouldn't?

The video claims the city owns that specific location.  Can't speak to the other 4

My local ralphs owns the store too. I'm not sure i see the difference.

The video also says a company will be hired to run the store. I'm not sure how they're going to offer higher wages and lower prices, but godspeed to them

I think he said they'd have to pay union parity wages which your local Ralph's already does.  If anything, it's a weasel way of saying the employees won't be unionized

People who are required to do community service could do it at the community store stocking shelves  cleaning and bagging  that might save a little money . My neighbor got a felony DUI and has to clean railroad tracks in Sacramento for 6 months . That seems hilarious but it wouldn't make any difference  to me though if he just helped make food a little cheaper .

It might save some, but it might also cost more.

Having said that, if we're really going to discuss using slave labor to reduce the cost of groceries, that could equally apply to any industry, private or public.  I'm not sure slave labor is part of the DSA platform, however.

He hurt some innocent people  that were just driving along minding their own business . The whole thing was a process that ate up  allot of govt time and resources , do you not think he owes a debt to society ? I don't know if I would view that as slave labor but I see your point .

Philosophically, I believe that paying for the cost of enforcing the laws of the nation is firmly within the acceptable and expected burden that taxpayers should shoulder.  If prosecuting someone costs too much, fines can mitigate that.  Once we get into the business of using incarcerated people to perform tasks that paid employees used to do, we incentivize incarceration.  We already see this happening.  I can't see it as anything but slave labor.

On a more pragmatic note, it is one thing to put people on the side of the freeway cleaning trash.  It's another thing altogether to expect slaves to accurately/adequately stock shelves and clean a grocery store.

And be honest...you're not poor.  If given the choice between buying from a store with well-paid, well-supervised employees at full price or getting a 10% discount at a store staffed by very recently convicted people working for free and supervised by the department of corrections, which would you choose?

Im w you lilly on this one.
Being formerly incarcerated, seeing PI, watching guys happily waste their time supplying consumer goods, that other consumers should be making.
For 10c on the dollar, give or take.
A disgusting agreement.
Def incentivizes incarceration. Fuck that.
Dsa is pro-egalitarian, in response to past failures, socially, economically, politically.
Not capitalist pig- "where can we find cheap or free labor?"
