1. Have you experienced psychedelic effects somewhat similar to Psilocybe cubensis after ingesting a Gymnopilusspecies?

Yes - similar not the same

2. What species did you consume? (You can answer "Unknown" if it fits better)
Subspectabilis
Luteus
Luteofolius

3. How would you characterize the overall experience briefly?
Variable by dose

High ~ 100g fresh
Very intoxicating initially may want to go to ground
Very colorful - reminiscent of orange sunshine

All doses
Warm glow
Feeling very grounded, "one with the environment"
Shorter duration than psilocybes

4. Did you experience at any time during or soon after the experience difficulty breathing, inhibited movement, or any other negative symptoms? If yes, please elaborate.
Felt a little wobbly high dose but not numbness or anything I'd call paralysis

5. Have you experienced any negative symptoms on two or more occasions with a Gymnopilus species?
Nasty farts the day after eating fresh (made into a quick soup)

6. Do you know someone who has ingested a Gymnopilus species and experienced wood-lovers paralysis or similar negative effects?
No

7. Do you have any recommendations to further advance the research on this topic?
they are a very underrated mushroom and some of us may prefer "going to the gym"  over others.  Making a quick hot and sour soup can make a big dose easily tolerable. I know this is not science, but it's a shame. They have such a bad rap.

FWIW - Fresh seems more visually active than dry

-yes

2. What species did you consume? (You can answer "Unknown" if it fits better)

-Gymnopilus luteus

3. How would you characterize the overall experience briefly?

-slight visual distortion
warmer colors (yellow/orange/pink) where more saturated
a deep feeling that felt like anxiety disappearing even though i didn't have any at the time of dosing.

4. Did you experience at any time during or soon after the experience difficulty breathing,  inhibited movement, or any other negative symptoms? If yes, please elaborate.

-not what i would call ¨inhibited movement¨ but getting up and moving felt uncomfortable ,not difficult or hard.
i still had 100% freedom of movement , laying back was just the better option.

5. Have you experienced any negative symptoms on two or more occasions with a Gymnopilus species?

-kinda , unlike cubes that give me nausea ,gyms give me lower GI cramps.

6. Do you know someone who has ingested a Gymnopilus species and experienced wood-lovers paralysis or similar negative effects?

-no

7. Do you have any recommendations to further advance the research on this topic?

-no idea of my own

7a. Look into type of wood. I suspect wood lovers contain different compounds depending on type of wood they fruited on.
7b. Compare fresh and dried gymns, in my experience there is a marked difference

Thank You!

I haven't known any one to experience WLP from Gymnopilus.

Thinking about what Sugarbearcrisp mentioned about different types of wood.... 🤔  I do know where to gather a type of wood/substrate/water that should produce WLP when used for growing Gymnopilus. It seems to work reliably for Azurescens.

I'm still collecting and testing... but here is what I've observed so far: For me, most/all of my WLP experiences in general, have been connected to a water source with high levels of known toxins.

This has led me to suspect, many wood loving, psilocybin producing mushrooms can potentially cause WLP, when/if grown in substrates containing additional foreign (toxic?) compounds.

I bet even cubensis could be grown in such a way which could cause WLP.

I do have a recommendation for further research... The jury is still out on what causes WLP... One hypothesis is WLP is caused by the mushrooms absorbing toxins from the environment, sourced from toxic algae blooms.

The above image is algae sourced from Fort Stevens State Park, from the substrate of WLP causing azurescens. If, WLP is caused by this exact Toxic Algae Bloom, then using the water in the bucket to grow Wood Lovers should reliably produce WLP when the mushrooms are ingested.

Edit: The "wood" I've found with WLP causing Azures was originally trees growing in the same questionable substrate. Then bulldozed into piles where a large number of Mushrooms grow. That "wood" seems to have absorbed something toxic and passed it on to the mushrooms.

Note on the Algae grow:

I used jacks 3-2-1 nutrients at full strength, added a hose to spin the water, set in an LED light and added the culture. Worked really well. It was my little Toxic pet for a while lol.

I'm not so keen on trying this myself any more.... but if someone is interested in the culture to test for science or something, lmk✌️
