Thanks Jon how are you?

Job market is cooked right now.

Good, I'm looking at getting my criminal record expunged. I haven't talked to a lawyer yet but according to AI and if it's right I can get them all expunged.  I'm gonna wait till next year when I have more money saved.

Oh man, that's so great. I didn't know that was a thing.

This might sound weird but I am in the habit of viewing really shitty things that's happened in the past or dumb things I did back then as a tool to becoming a better person now. Not to invalidate your experience, but you should be proud of where you've come from and how far you've come. In my experience anyone who goes through true hardship and harnesses it for change becomes a better person than had they avoided it.

Less positivity: fuck colds lol

I'm definitely happy with how far I've come. Schizophrenia was something that got me arrested 5 times, and now to think I can make it all go away and look for a better-paying job is great!

Yeah that's awesome. Talking to you and others and thinking about my own mental health stuff makes me wanna do some kind of advocacy for it. I think particularly for people to understand that people with mental health illness are still people and always have potential to better themselves particularly when they are given the right tools

Yeah it's damn near impossible for someone who is homeless to get mental health treatment but there are programs to help the homeless they just don't know they exist

:frown:

Imo mental health is just as important as physical health. I find it interesting that only about, by my estimate, 15-20% of general practice visits are due to mental health. It's a mix of people not knowing it's actually cared for and the doctors not actually asking.

Even worse for homeless. Sucks

I'd never go to a doctor for mental health personally, they hardly even know about nutrition let alone that - the only real actionable outcome in the US is probably put on some shitty antidepressant or worse.

Im kinda exasperated by the arguments against antidepressants. They are very useful, lifesaving even, to a lot of people. For some less so. It is ALWAYS the choice for the person to choose if they go on them tho.

And yeah crack is definitely healthier than antidepressants. Fo sure

Antidepressants did wonders for me I could hardly function without them. It felt horrible never mind the sad part. The physical feeling was terrible.

:frown: yeah. The antidepressant I was on played a big part of getting me out of the depressive and dissociative state I was in this year.

I just get frustrated when antidepressants are ruled out by people completely. Mental health is stigmatised enough let alone taking a medication to help you for it. I'm self-stigmatising myself right now about whether I should try ADHD meds. I'm realising now I probably need it and it it doesn't work for me or if I prefer being unmediaticsted then I can just stop it (taper down). You wouldn't deny a diabetic their insulin.

It works for some people - I'm stigmatized against it because multiple close friends of mine committed suicide shortly after going on SSRI's - or most recently was dating a friend who went on antidepressants - gained like 40lbs in 2 weeks, and basically seems to have no emotions now, and basically 0 sex drive whatsoever - maybe better than being depressed but yeah. Yes I've seen good results and functional results but I think they're way over perscribed in the US, in multi drug cocktails and without nuance to what is prescribed or supporting treatments.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Yes unfortunately doctors very rarely take the time to inform people of the risks and rewards. It is a known risk that people who are suicidal who begin to take antidepressants are more likely to have a suicide attempt in the first few weeks because it gives them energy while not fully reducing the suicidiality. I have seen doctors not tell people this and it pisses me off. Even the med I was on, I mean I was pretty suicidial at the point and there was no discussion. Anyway.

And yes the reason I'm not on them coz it ruins my sex drive and makes me fat. However that is a weighed up decision because I'm not very depressed right now.

Anyway, sorry to hear that about your friends. That really fucking sucks.

It's a pick your poison kind of thing.

Wanna stave off the night terrors and ridiculous nonsense paranoia episodes? Lose some sex drive and creativity.

My wife has like no sex drive currently, but her risk taking behavior and depression have become manageable.

I miss a good freaky romp, but definitely prefer the financial stability and better home life for the kids. Sacrifices I guess.

Plus, nothing is permanent.

Hard thing to remember sometimes.

No it isn't.
Crack is worse.
It might even be worse than heroin. Not sure why the conversation keeps getting brought to crack and heroin. Two of the shittiest compounds.
