Severing all the negativity from your life
    #2488251 - 03/31/04 10:02 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I have gone on a personal mission to eradicate all negativity and negative influences from my life and I am much, much happier and more content.

But still some exists. There is a D&D group that I am part of, and I just feel like there is alot of negativity with these people. Everyone is always whining (on the messageboard we go to) and griping at one another. I don't like it, and I always have a bad feeling about it.

So I'm thinking about removing myself from this group, which I now consider to be a negative influence. I need strength though.

Should I remove my presence from these negative people?

Your own instincts are your best guide. Have you read "The gift of Fear?" One thing I took from it was that we should all trust our instincts more and listen to the warnings we give ourselves. I say dump em and move on!

Yeah I would leave.

I don't enjoy hanging around with negative people, so I can understand what you're looking for

I think that if you truly feel that these people are a negative influence on your life, then don't think twice about ditching them. There's nothing wrong with that.

Negative people give off negative vibes. You need a good dose of happy people so I would find new people.

Hey if you don't want to do the rpg group, I'll hang out with you. I am sort of dubious about joining it too...partly because I don't think I can devote that much time to it and I don't know if I want to get that deep into my character, George the Giant.

I had to shitcan by best oldest friend because of his negative outlook...It wears on you after awhile. Life is way to precious to let negative people rub off on you so get away from it right now and shine.

Aw, thanks.   Your character is so cool.  The group is gathering this Sunday to "talk" things out, since Jim the DM bailed.  But whenever they "talk things out" things have a tendency to get rather nasty.  I think I'll wait and see what happens and then withdraw after they "talk".

Thanks for the support everyone!

Damb shady thats a pretty ambitious goal. Go with your instint

Alo- I had to ditch one of my oldest best friends too because of his negitivity. Its sad to think about, but i realize that his way of life was dragging me down with him.
I still visit him on occasion though, but almost every time, he gets me into some crazy shit.

SporeShur - dude, I recommend that book to everyone!

Elle - yes, it's worth the effort to sort out the negative people from, say, someone having a bad time in their life. I seperated into them into groups of 'completely out', 'distancing myself' or 'working on it.' Since I'm pretty sure I've been in the latter two groups (at least) for those I considered friends before.
Best of luck.

Yay, gamer girls.

I would leave that group.
I removed all negative influences (not so many) from my life a few years ago and i love life a lot more now.
So go out there and make your life better

Fill your life with positives.

D&D teaches people very little... there are more constructive passtimes around (I have also noticed that D&D seems to attract people who have a negative reality). These days, I enjoy fantasy on a personal level when I can (hard to get English books here) as I have found that, on the whole, I don't enjoy the company of most people in that 'scene'.

Perhaps if you booked yourself in for a short course of some description during that time-slot (and just not return) it might be easier to make the break.

hey ellimy, I have been wrestling with this issue myself for a long time, I think you are doing the right thing looking for more positive people to hang out with. But as a long-term goal, finding a way to defend yourself against an other persons negative thought is a worthwhile aim. I'm not quite sure how, but to me it is just not a acceptable n to have my mood and happiness at the mercy of someone else.
