Like I said earlier, ketamine isn't superior. It just isn't schedule one, so it was easier to roll out with the DEA being the DEA.
This is completely anecdotal, but my experience. I’ve been dabbling with substances for 20 years now, and only got hung up twice. I had a healthy drinking habit since I was old enough to get someone to buy me a bottle. I ate a couple tabs and grams here and there. Extracted my own DMT once.
Lucy has been my favorite since we first met. I don’t think it changed me, or gave me all the answers in the universe. it just made me understand why I felt so different from everyone else. And that it was OK. Plus watching the walls and floors melt, or smelling sound was pretty sweet too.
Picked up a meth habit while working warehousing, and that lasted 2.5 years. Meth made me everything I ever wanted to be, and gave me the confidence to achieve everything I ever wanted. It also caused me to go from 240 pounds, down to 135. Took a bunch of psychological work, no rehab or counseling, and an infinitely patient partner to kick that.
Replaced that with the bottle, essentially. I never stopped the sauce when I was speeding, but I definitely sped up when I got clean. That lasted another 7 years. I’d like to believe I didn’t stress my family out in that time frame, that I was being harder on myself. I was never violent or outbursty in the throes of addiction. But I wasn’t available a lot of the time I should have been, and neglected work. No dependents aside from my significant other. I always had money from working, and then owning my own thing.
But I did meth till I looked in the mirror one day after a shower, standing on the scale, and it was like, “Fuck dude, you’re gonna die.”
When I stopped drinking January of this year, I was up to atleast a fifth a day, atleast a half pint before work, never took a solid shit, I was back up to 240, puking blood was normal. I still can only sleep on my back without aggravating an ulcer. My kidneys were regularly achey, urine was getting to be dark, even when well hydrated my face was looking rough again.
And I just couldn’t kick it. I had the “fuck dude, you’re gonna die” probably a year or two ago. And it just didn’t click like it did with meth. It never made sense that I couldn’t drink responsibly, and I was sure I could do it. But it hadn’t happened yet.
Bought street ketamine for the first time. Used it one time. Snorted a quarter of a gram, and just let whatever happen, happen. Pretty experienced so new experiences are more exciting than scary. And I have not touched the bottle since. I had cravings for a week or so, but when I was getting home from work, I just blasted those away with some more k.
That went on for about 3 weeks. It started with bumping and watching kill Tony. At the end, I was snorting .75, turning on shpongle, and sitting in the shower, completely disconnecting from reality.
On my last trip from that session, it was literally the last of the bag, when I was able to get out of the shower, it was like a light switch flipped. I even heard a voice. It might have just been a thought, or a hallucination, but it said, “we’re done”. And the cravings were gone.
I didn’t do ketamine for 2 months just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. But the cravings for alcohol, or the want to do something to replace the alcohol, were just gone. Like I didn’t just struggle for 7 years. It still blows my mind. I’m 123 days dry, I’ve done ketamine recently, and will again in the future. Just not 3/4 of a gram split into two lines, and not daily, or all day.
I never received that kind of relief from feelings of addiction from acid, not even on 24 hits. Not on 10 grams of mushrooms. Not on trips to hyperspace.
Now the question is. Is it the really the ketamine that helped, or is it placebo, because I really wanted to quit, because I knew I would benefit from it, and I really wanted it to be some kind of psychoactive drug that gave me relief.
Just my two cents, I can only speak from experience.
Great post!!!
Congrats on kicking the booze… I know how it feels.
