In the context of falling a sleep you might mean Hypnagogia, I have mostly experienced it as a semi dream like state, where I still feel awake, but the dream like visuals are already starting. And the general visual noise and phosphenes are starting to clump together(?) to more structured shapes (I’ve also explained CEV to myself similarly).

This sounds like a likely culprit! Thank you!!! Wow, my brain does not wait to actually shut off at all before it goes into partial-sleep mode. I literally lay there with my eyes closed mindlessly watching.

I dont actually agree that we have easier lives than hunter gatherers or nomadic shepards. complication doesnt mean better.  its a myth.  theres a couple books that deal
specifically with the myth of the agricultural revolution.  namely, ishmael and a book called the chalice and the blade which considerd the greatest curration of ancient history ever written.

the ag revolution actually just created the most difficult way to live that humans have ever come up with and likewise, created famine and disaster previously not experienced.  agrarianism didnt precede famine just as falling from an airplane didnt precede the invention of the parachute.

sure, its nice to not die of dissease or die in child labor, but the rule is, youve got to die of so something eventually and honestly, ive seen lots of people go and none of it was pleasant.

i dont think laziness is the cause of my having an anxiety disorder.  its more the result working against my own genetic programming to live in a way that my body and nervous system werent designed.  (that and severe trauma) the addictions came, not before. same as the parachute.

it becomes a constant effor to try to manage the nervous system while the world is burning.  i think i ran over 30 miles last week.

Anyone else know what blasphemy im taking about?

Ah, shut up you lazy caveman, and be grateful for your modern conveniences.

I think there's a fundamental problem with history. On the one hand, you can say, look at all this horrible shit that happened in the past, but then again, that's pretty much all they bothered to write down. Also, today, a lot of the rhetoric is "you're, like, super free, trust me bro." In antiquity, the narrative was often "I'm like, super duper all powerful and basically divine, trust me bro." Sure, technology has advanced, you gotta acknowledge that. But the relative power and autonomy of the hoi polloi has diminished as a result. Ok, so maybe you'd have some guys ride up on horses and stab you with broadswords if you didn't kick ghe right percentage of your turnip harvest and were kind of a dick about it, and they hadn't beheaded any insolent peasants in a while and wanted to make an example of you. Maybe you didn't democratically elect your local lord fuckpants. Now, we're "free" to play an elaborate game that probably involves more working hours and more rules, and breaking the wrong ones or just getting into a spiral that leads to unpaid debts can easily get you into a scenario where men with automatic weapons will light you the fuck up. Do it on any sort of collective scale, and you face aerial bombardent (even in the US- see MOVE headquarters) Of course the world is moee "peaceful" today. Most of its population has been completely cowed into submission by the threat of quick and extreme ultra-violence.

As for what "we have," it's a double edged sword. We should be grateful for our ability to exploit and organize and create the environment around us. We should also recognize that it's been manipulated and pushed by horrible people for as long as anyone can remember, and they'll still be saying "look, how amazing, we're giving you peasants an AI dishwasher" as billions of people drown in their own filth like mold in an overgrown petri dish.

Anyway, if it wasn't clear to the outside observer, you know I agree with you (as per previous discussion).

Tax:
Going into day 4 of trying to get around to doing some agar transfers. Literally just 8 pasty plates I made last week. I did two yesterday before bailing to go Harbor Freight and then watch football at the in-laws'. I'm basically the cult equivalent of a document that won't finish downloading at this point.

everybody better love their trickles and their ai dishwasher.  hahahah thanks for the chime B as always. B for blasphemy.

fuedalism, communism and capitalism are all modern iterations of agrarianism if we really look at it.  the thesis of ismael is basically that 3500 years ago, some humans decided they know whats best ie ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and said you know what lets rape the planet and make it do what we want.  they killed or subjugated the hunter gatherers and nomadics and are still in that process to this day.  ie cain killing his less industrious brother with a rock because god probably likes abel more .

its bullshit that this made our lives better.
its bullshit that this makes any sense.  it doesnt.  its actually insane and it isnt sustainable.
its bullshit too that people didnt live long and rich lives prior to the agricultural revolution and also, how long is long enough? why do we need to live to an infirm age where we piss ourselves and our brains melt away?

we're all cain.  banished to wander the earth forever.

and come on brother ive been reading your sarcasm for YEARS i was onto it first sentence hahah.  i never dont love it but so far, its never been aimed at me.

I like modern medical technology, but beyond that I think we're worse off in almost every way.  I mean, we're talking an automatic 10 year reduction in life span with the introduction of agriculture.  Turns out stone ground grain has a lot of microscopic rock bits that grind teeth, and grains have sugars that decay teeth   But hey, all the mouths were fed.

I also live a bit of a modern hunter gatherer lifestyle, so I'm biased.  I've never loved life on the job, but I've found peace up a mountain side in a berry field that's steeped in fog.

My life occurs in between the breaking waves of procrastination. They say this is a sign of childhood trauma. I haven't met anyone yet that did not suffer from some sort of childhood trauma.

I spent a couple decades trying to achieve anything paranormal. I could not. Which eventually led me to psilocybin and shroom cultivation, which is real.

Anyway, had to sleep last night and missed chiming in about civilization. Graham Hancock has a series, maybe Netflix, called Ancient Apocalypse. He is showing how our view of the past is missing a lot due to archaeological gatekeepers who guard the current paradigm.

Basically, he has found evidence that civilization rose and fell millenia before we think. That it all was destroyed by cataclysm about 12k years ago called the younger dryas, when we had to start over.

win, and what happens when that happens.  i actually cant wait.

The Chalice and the Blade is on my bookshelf, I gave gotten to reading it but am currently reading nurturing our humanity by the same author.

Love anthropology and systems science.

I confess, I'm making eight half gallon all in one jars this morning.  Using a much more complicated prep than I usually do, just to experiment with some different species preferences.

Edit:  and I'm not looking forward to cleaning up the mess I made in the kitchen

In my studies the demographics of Europe were pretty extensively covered. Must agree that medical advancements are a way more quantifiable and direct form of progress, compared to the agricultural revolution / green revolution. People like Pasteur and Semmelweiss really improved the way we live, how long we live, and how we die. The neomalthusian idea that hunger is the great moving factor of civilizations was pretty much drowning out in that time. We had hunger because of irresponsible wage / food price mechanisms. Those mechanisms evolved over millennia in the feodal societies that were the direct result of the agricultural revolution... Like kings, patriarchy (probably, but I can defend that over several axis), the idea that nature is an enemy that needs to be fought and all that other bs.

Agriculture and industrialization have mainly fucked up most people to have a few bathe in luxury. The idea that our society is built upon resources that are dwindling, that we are using up these resources hoping that technology will save us from our greed, sickens me.

still much rather be living today than at any earlier point in history. if only for the dentistry. (not to mention shroom growing forums online!) humans have a bad habit of taking things for granted imho, and looking back to a mythologized and idealized past.

not too keen on Graham Hancock. I don't think archeologists take him seriously. plus his work's been exploited by some white power shitheads, big time, and he hasn't done much to distance himself.

signed, Mr Wet Blanket

edit: I think gatekeepers in this case are just pros who can't find evidence to support Hancock's claims.

edit two: not to say I don't think it's a terrible world on the verge of apocalypse cuz, lawd have mercy !!

I thought his show was pretty well done and he brings out some interesting points about the development of civilization.

What I find most compelling is the enormous underwater structures that have been found in a number of places (Japan, Bahamas, etc.) that would have to have been constructed long before the last ice age.

Hancock wasn't considered a scientific author when I was in uni, never read him, so I can't judge.
Don't get me wrong: I despise idolizing the past. It's what nationalists do. But the idea that we are the cream of history because we can buy a million different packages of shit... We are pretty much lost, as Nietzsche said. So we focus on stuff. I cannot compare our form of freedom to the freedom a serf must have felt on a spiritual level: God exists, life has purpose, your suffering has purpose and your dead kids adre in a better place. Incommensurable stuff. I just highly doubt we are the luckiest humans in history.

All depends on the circumstances you're born into, in my view.

I'd rather be hunting and gathering in the Amazon 500 years ago than digging for precious metals in West Africa today.

We are certainly have more freedom to travel and live where we want than at any time in history.

If you're gonna make a blanket statement like that, then you certainly need to define what you mean by "we," and what yiu mean by "freedom."

The boomers were pretty lucky, at least in Western societies.

Medical science is good now but deaths from despair (suicide and alcoholism for example) are at an all time high between lack of upward mobility, lack of affordable housing, and the mass extinction we're all about to witness.

But even preindustrial agriculture had its problems.  Famine from soil depletion for example.  Part of the reason the Egyptian's did so well was because the Nile floods, replenishing the soil.

Freedoms vary depending on where you live and the circumstances you were born into, but a higher percentage of humans on the planet, right now, are living with more financial freedom, access to capital, freedom to travel and choose the life they want to live than at any time in history.

There are certainly many examples of groups that are living in poverty and oppressed/exploited and even in slavery, but that number is lower today than at any time in history.

I think the challenge of our current era is addiction and how corporations are pushing addictive technologies of all kinds to boost their revenues regardless of the broader impact and the guardrails we need to push back against this trend just aren't in place.

Damn.  good point.

well according to chalice and the blade, people didnt actually have all these dental issues that people think they did.  they chewed certain roots and tallow and things that apparently worked about as well a modern toothbrush.  they didnt rape and kill like people think they did either.  it was pretty cooperative in terms of the sexes.  women probably did more of the hunting than men did due largely to the fact that they had better anatomy to cover greater distances with regard to persistence hunting. like lions.  theres also footwear and other archeological evidence that supports that.

i think the thing that piques my interest the most is the fact that people had a lot more time for community, art, ritual.  family.  Friends.  violence towards one another wasnt apparently common and it would make sense.
