It's entirely strain specific for the most part.
Some strains just drop more spores and other strains are albino and have translucent spores.

Friends..

I've recently changed from rye to wheat. And at the same time I "upgraded " my jar lids from polyfill to sfd's (https://www.ebay.nl/itm/193342297434)

I pc for 2 hours at 17psi.(I vent, remove air pockets under the jars, etc)

90% of my jars now contaminated even without opening the jars after pc'ing.

I bought a lot of this wheat , and changed all my lids. I trust the sfd, so is it possible that grain is so "dirty" that a pc cycle like this isn't sufficient?

I've done hundreds of jars with rye, and had never any issues. What do you guys think is the most likely cause?

That’s a new bit of info. I did not know that the albino’s have translucent spores. Thank you.

Are you leaving the lids a tiny bit loose when PCing?  Is the contam showing up evenly in the grain or starting from the top?

I don't loosen the lids.. should I?

Good question, I'm not sure . I'll keep an eye on it. Assuming if contam shows up top it's probably a filter failure right?

And just in general , is there something like "too dirty" grain or a specific mold that's more pc resistant? Or is it always a filter failure or a failure In the pc cycle ?

It shows like this.. the grains look kind of grey and get small green spots of mold I think..

Looks good to me, but on the dry side. If you gave it Fae from day 1 I'd cut it by half.

I have the lid clipped already so I guess I'll just have to mist to make up for it.

Freezing fresh fruit ruptures the cell walls and causes a rapid decomposition of the actives.

That actually applies to everything. Just because you freeze something and it’s been frozen for a very long time. Does not mean it isn’t decomposing at an incredibly slow rate. When things have been frozen for very long time and they’ve been brought out of a deep freeze. The decomposition is much faster.

So do I. As written above, in trying the figure out the cause of contamination.

Most importantly if grain can be so dirty that a 2 hours 17psi pc cycle can't sterilize it?

I bought some really cheap wheat. So I'm wondering if that is the culprit. Never had issues with rye.

Thanks in advance

Are blunt tip needles OK to use for making spore syringes? Going to use them for PFtek and I can't see a reason why they wouldn't. Just wondering if someone has tried or can confirm/deny

Only issue I see it posing is squirting out too fast or getting clogged with verm
