I'm looking for oyster cultures, but mailing syringes across the border into canada seems a bit sketchy. Does anyone know of a company that sells cultures/syringes/prints in canada? Can anyone recommend a variety of oyster that will grow on straw, is fairly easy to cultivate (along similar lines to cubes) and is delicious?
I sent cultures from Europe to Canada & USA without any problems. Syringes might be suspicius but vials and petris always came trough.
Oysters are easy to grow and they're always recomended for beginners and most of them are grown on pasteurized straw (with exception of Pleurotus eryngii). Blue oysters (P. ostreatus) prefer colder temperatures while summer (P. pulmonarius), golden (P. citrinopileatus) and pink oysters (P. djamor) grow better in warm conditions.
Oysters are easily cloned from grocery store specimens. Western Biologicals in B.C. sells (gourmet and medicinal) cultures for $20, I recommend them for Canada and the US. The sporelab has a few cultures available for the same price, but I have no experience with this business.
