Omicron is exponentially more contagious than colds/flus we've dealt with before. Fortunately it's less deadly than previous covid strains, but that can change at any time.

I don’t think omicron was less deadly. By the time omicron hit most people had been vaccinated or previously infected, so it is as much less dangerous to them. Omicron infected a lot of people who were no longer susceptible to serious outcomes due to previous exposure. To the immune naive omicron was just as dangerous.
