Yes. You can’t go to school or  get day care in the US unless the kid is vaccinated for tons of shit. It been like that for decades. Every state mandates vaccines for kids, which is why this conversation about mandates is so absurd.

You can try to get an exemption but most states have cracked down on them

A couple years ago in NYC they had a measles outbreak so they started fining parents if their unvaccinated children were caught in public.

There’s nothing new about mandates. What’s new is how some adults have turned into entitled little bitches.

Allowing exemptions on religious or philosophical grounds is ridiculous.

My state does it but oddly enough, when pressed, most of the vaccine skeptics I knew just opted to get vaccinated. I suspect it is just because doing so was slightly easier for them than getting the exemption paperwork in order.

Koods is right this has been a big debate for years. I think the mandate has to come from the people tho and we've seen some states simply don't want this koods don't be an asshole. I think there should be some situations where there should be religious exemptions should be allowed. But in the example of something like vaccines for students in public schools absolutely not. These communities are free to create there own schools if they domt want to abide by the public school systems vaccination requirements. Why is that so hard to understand koods? I'm really starting to think ur some type antisemite or something :facepalm:

My friend is a doctor and I think one of his greatest joys in life is watching patients freak out when he denies their attempts to get a vaccine medical exemption out of him.

I would like to point out the power of vaccines in a very personal way.  Despite being healthy, relatively young at 42, active and I work out, and have been eating much more healthy recently, I can get measles.  I have had the MMR several times, I have had special stand alone measles shots.  I do not seroconvert the vaccine into any meaningful immunity.  I literally rely on the goodwill of my fellow people to be vaccinated against measles, so as to have what is essentially a human shield against measles around me.  We CAN do the same with covid.  Yet we refuse, because we are foolish and we are scared.

This disease happened so fast, and was so impactful, only a similarly massive event could have caused it (conspiracy).  This is what our minds are designed to do.  Determine cause and effect.  Big effects have big causes.  A simple bad luck zoonotic transmission of a virus to a person, that managed to get through several roadblocks and spread to other people, against all odds, upends our view of the world.

To make sense of it we fill in the blanks with sensational causes, equal to the catastrophic effects.

Then comes the vaccine.  A chance against this inscrutable deadly menace.  The vaccine is a major effect, thus it must have a major cause.  It is mind control by government, DNA altering by a nefarious cabal of the world. 

The reality it is again dumb luck (we had been studying coronavirus extensively since @2013, as well as had made major headway in the use of mRNA as a medical treatment.  Dumb luck causes these two forces to collide, end result is aa groundbreaking vaccine developed at astonishing speed.  Again this is categorized as a major thing in our brain.  Major things must have equally major causes.  Conspiracy fills the gap.

So for all the anti-vaxx folks out there, it's not you.  It is your low information brain unable to handle that sometimes major fucking things happen for the most random inconsequential reasons.  Tje wrold does not make sense, life is tough.

For those who are scared of mRNA vaccines thinking they will alter your DNA - which is absolute rubbish, here's something else that is looking very promising for treating certain cancers.

It is called CAR-T cell therapy (or Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell therapy) and it has been said to be a living, evolving "drug" that has long acting efficacy, some are saying it is a cure.

People underestimate what having so many COVID patients in the hospital (in the same building as many of the most vulnerable people) means too. Most hospitals aren't staffed enough to have COVID-specific employees. Yesterday I spent 3 hours getting coughed on by unvaccinated COVID patients.... today one of my non-covid patients just had a liver transplant and is on immunosuppressants, another has bilateral pulmonary edema from end stage renal disease, another is 97 years old.

If I was even slightly less than perfect in my precautions and some virus made into/out of my face, I could be putting all these people at risk of death. I'm as cautious as I can be, but is every single other staff member? I also risk catching/bringing home the virus to my family every single day, solely because people chose to get sick and let the hospital fix them instead of just taking the one simple step to not get sick and end up in the hospital. Then there's the factor of them taking up beds while we have an admission wait-list of up to a week at times these days.

These are all just facts of daily life that I've long-since come to terms with, but are some more easy examples of the selfishness of refusing a vaccine. Not one of my patients, especially the "young and healthy" ones, thought they needed it or thought they'd end up in the hospital. Everyone feels invincible until they can't breathe.

On Monday morning I walked into my unit to the wonderful sound of an AED , code alarm and people running down the hall. One of my COVID patients was dead on the floor next to her bed, 44 years old. She was no longer even actively infected, just waiting on the IV antibiotics to clear up the remaining pneumonia so she could go home to her cats and children, the infection had different plans though. One or two trips to CVS and she likely would have been around for another 30 years, instead she's at her own funeral today.
