Well, can't say it didn't work for those folks. They certainly won't be catching any more strains, no matter how infectious.

So to be clear, you're saying that if he had been previously infected within a certain amount of time, then it would be acceptable for him to be unvaxxed?

My friend got infected last year, he had 175 U/mL on antibody test shortly after infection. He got his second pfizer dose in October, took a test last week and maxed out the sensitivity of the test at over 2500+ U/mL. My wife who's never been infected but was boosted tested at 2500+ U/mL 3 months after getting the booster.

It's common sense that more exposures provide better immunity, particularly for the memory immune cells (more exposures can even provide better protection against variants) that will be crucial for transplant recipients on immunosuppressants. Vaccination responses are also much more measurable and predictable due to standardized doses, unlike with infection.

I have no fucking idea. I would think his doctors would want him to have the best possible immunity, so I would guess they would still require him to be vaccinated. You’re assuming the data that shows hospitalization rates for the general population are the same for previous infection, whether you get vaccinated or not applies to someone with a compromised immune system. The same data you are crowing about also shows that previously infected people without vaccination are 50% more likely to get infected than those who do get vaccinated.

You shouldn’t assume that someone who is unhealthy and will have a severely compromised immune system needs the same number of exposures to maximize their immunity as a normal healthy person. We know that immune compromised people benefit from a fourth shot, while it doesn’t appear that the average person gets a benefit from a fourth shot.

But it is absolutely necessary for someone to have the maximum immunity possible before their immune system gets intentionally compromised as is required for transplant patients

Boosting is more about preventing infection than preventing serious illness. The level of protection you get for serious disease doesn’t decline very much over time because it doesn’t rely on circulating antibodies.

People who are immune compromised will greatly benefit from “passive vaccination” which are essentially long lasting synthetic antibodies, which will protect against infection.

I’ve seen a bunch of studies showing that protection against serious disease actually improves over time due to somatic hypermutation, where B cells that originally only produce antibodies for the exact antigen they were exposed to diversify the antibodies they can make, anticipating mutations in the virus.

For someone who's immunocompromised or on immunosuppressants having a greater amount of COVID familiar B cells via multiple exposures may be beneficial though. The one study I've seen showed that infection + vaccination resulted in much higher COVID/spike specific b cells than just one exposure from either, with additional doses showing small increases

My mother was on a chemo specially developed to target B cells, dysregulated somatic hypermutation is thought to possibly be a cause for certain lymphomas. Luckily she's been off it for over a year, it must be awful for anyone on these kinds of meds right now

Pre transplant, this guy is not immunocompromised. The immunocompromised state is induced by the drugs used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs. He is perfectly capable of having a robust immune response now that will benefit him for the rest of his life, even after his immune system becomes compromised.

I posted an article a while back that showed people taking immunosuppressants could stop taking them for a short period to improve their response to vaccination.

Well I think I have covid.

Going for a rapid test tonight hopefully after work.

If you remember, I just took a second job 2 weeks ago

One of my coworkers kids had covid..... but he kept coming to work ...

He wore a mask for one day and then didn't .

:fuckthisshit:

:fuckthisshit:

At this point what am I supposed to do? Blame the guy for giving me covid because he can't afford financially to miss work?

SO far only minor symptoms... slight fever, chills, sorish throat, chest congestion.

I just heard a poll on NPR saying only 10% of respondents say they had a confirmed case of omicron or suspect they had omicron. I think this idea that “we are all going to get omicron” is proving to be incorrect. I know lots of people who haven’t gotten omicron and DC was ground zero at the beginning. Nobody in my family has. Most people I know haven’t. We are approaching preomicron levels of infection around here, so I don’t think there’s much opportunity left to catch it.

Omicron is over here. Numbers crashed as fast as they grew

Don’t blame him for coming to work.
Blame him for not wearing an n95 mask whenever he was around other people and not informing others about his risk.

Now other people take the financial hit because they can’t come to work. People are so fucking selfish. You’re in Georgia so plenty of unvaccinated people around that he could put in the hospital or kill.

Anyways, you sound like my friend. He felt sick for a couple days, lost his sense of smell on day five. Got it back on day six, and I hung out with him on day 10 and didn’t get infected.

Now that I think about it, that dude should have quarantined. That’s what quarantine is, isolation of individuals who have been exposed, but aren’t sick.

Well over 3,500 deaths today. The next two weeks are going to be the worst of the entire pandemic. Almost all would have been entirely preventable with the vaccine. The antivax movement is a genocide.

Yeah. It's really messed up. He's from Brazil and can't even speak English even though he's been living here for 4 years.

And basically didn't give a fuck about anyone but himself. The fact that he wore a mask for one day and then quit says a lot...

But hey... I don't know if I did get it from him you know? So like... I'll just let Karma take it's course and not blame anyone or get mad about it.

But you're right... it's completely fucking selfish

This isn't China, where organs just "magically appear" the moment anyone with enough social credit needs one.
