I think everyone's on the same page that a minority of cases are serious. It's just that there's no way for sure how "unlucky" you are until it's too late for a vaccine to do you any good.

Right so why are we not allowed to choose to make the gamble?

I can still catch and spread it no matter what so the vaccines only benefit is potentially keeping me from taking up a hospital bed.  Let me sign a waiver that I don't get a bed for covid and we can all go about our day without these mandates.

That's not true.  While breakthrough cases certainly exist, with more from omicron lineage, the vaccines do indeed reduce the chance of getting infected, and reduce the chance of spreading it once infected.  I keep seeing that the only reason to take the vaccine is to reduce severity of illness.  While this would certainly be the main benefit, the reduction in transmission window, as well as the increased difficulty of becoming infected are important benefits.  Ones that if existed in a fully vaccinated population would make transmission and spread of the disease slower, resulting in our hospital system not being overwhelmed, as well as for potential mitigation strategies to be formulated.  As it is, especially with omicron lineage, the disease is too fast moving to get ahead of it, meaning mitigation becomes relatively ineffective, and all that is left is struggling to treat the disease as opposed to prevention.

I don't know how it works where you live, but I was allowed to choose whether or not to get the vaccine. :shrug:

Is an "antigen" test the one folks need to take if they want to find out if they had the virus at some point in the past? Like weeks or months ago?


I suspect I may have caught it almost 2 weeks ago...People I live in the same house with had it (though they quarantined in their room the entire time and entered their room from a side door from the outside)...I never fully felt "sick", but I def felt off and had some mild symptoms for a few days (some slight chills/fever feeling, some mild aches/pains in the body, feeling a bit sleepy headed & lethargic, and a mild sore throat sensation in the back/roof of my throat kinda near my nasal/sinus passage).

It was the same symptoms I felt for the first 48 hours after I got the vaccine but much milder (I felt rather sick for 2 days after getting the vax), tho I didn't have a sore throat sensation after getting the vax....It was all pretty mild, I never quite felt full on "sick", but it was just enough to have me suspect that I may have become infected.

More than anything I'm just curious, I'd like to know if I've had it at some point already.



I only know a few folks that have caught it so far, and all of them have caught it over the past several months (prior to the past few months I haven't known anyone that's caught it)...everyone that I know that has caught it so far hasn't been hit by it all that heavy regardless if they have the vaccine or not. Basically just a fever and some body aches for 4 days or so then it starts to subside. My mother, my uncle, my aunt, and a few of my cousins have all basically had the same sort of symptoms/duration/severity and I don't think any of them are vaccinated (and all of them caught it over the past month or so)

The antigen tests detect spike and other viral proteins in your snot/saliva. Positive means you are currently infected or have just recently cleared an infection. It wouldn’t be able to tell if you were infected two weeks ago.

An antibody test can tell you if you’ve been infected. You have to make sure it specifically looks for antibodies from an actual infection and not the vaccines, tho.

If you were in the same house with people infected with omicron and had those symptoms, sounds like you did get infected.

He’s a good source. Sometimes his data analysis is a little off and I’ve seen him misinterpret research occasionally, but I watch his videos.
