Liberty caps - 1st timer

Foraged some liberty caps this week, confirmed with the folks on here and my own research.

Have had interest in tripping for a while, and now the opportunity has presented itself....

Looking for an introductory experience, not too potent, intending to spend time in nature and see how I handle psychedelics (never used before).

Any advice is welcome!

Do you have any experienced friends that can join you?
For the first time it can be really helpful to have someone else there who knows the ropes.

Often times you will get every feeling there is including fear try and be open to it breath and remember it will pass for me fear is often a gate way to bliss in the trip

Bring warm layers healthy snacks and water, it’s helpful to feel equipped.

Cool, thanks for the advice.
No i dont know anyone here who is experienced in paychedelics.  A couple of friends are but they live abroad.
Is it fine to do alone, or is it better someone joins even if they're not participating?

I know for deep sessions they suggest a sitter, but i was intending on doing something a good bit lighter.

My first time I didn’t take a very big dose, I was with an experienced friend but we were also both young.

Ever since then I mainly trip alone and it’s incredible. One time I did have to call a friend during a really hard experience but he knew the  psychedelic space and what I was going through so he was very helpful.

Only you can decide if it’s something you want to take on by yourself, but if you choose to it might be good to tell a local friend what you are planning and also your friend abroad with experience so if needed you can call.

Also if you choose to, dose high enough to go through the door but not an outrageous amount, for standard cubensis this is typically 2-3.5g
Libs are more potent (I’ve never tried them but for my local potent Psilocybe cyanescens I usually dose 1-2.5g)

Thanks for your advice.  I think ill ask a friend here to spend the day with me, and will let me friend abroad know what im doing incase i feel the need to chat.

Im wondering if your suggestions for dosage are for wet mushrooms? Ive dried them all out now.

Was considering doing a much smaller dose a couple of days before, microdose really, just to rule out any adverse digestive reaction (ive got some food intolerances/allergies).  What do you think?

I was talking dry weight
I prefer to have at least a threshold dose. Tea or Leon tek really helps with nausea, some stomach discomfort is just part of it…deep breathing really helps too.

Micro dosing for me just keeps me in a tough place where it’s all body load and come up anxiety and none of the amazing parts like perception shifts, and euphoria.

My first mushroom trips were from Liberty caps, but it was pre-internet days, so we all had massive doses. I wouldn’t recommend it, it could scare you away from psychedelics for life.

So be careful as Chuck said, liberty caps are way more potent than cubensis. The heroic dose on cubensis is 5 dried grams. It’s 3.5 dried grams of Liberty caps. You will get much more open eye visuals on Liberty caps, and in my opinion they are slight;y ‘darker’ than cubes. I love them though :awesome:

I've decided tomorrow is the day, so I've cleared my schedule, dried and weighed out 1g of dry libs.  My friend abroad gave some great guidance and says he'll be by the phone, just for support.

Hey guys

So yesterday I took the 1g as planned.  I felt pretty nervous about it and haven't been feeling very good lately with a persistent headache, which I know is not ideal circumstances but I felt the calling to do it.  When I arrived at my chosen spot under a tree in the field in which I picked the mushrooms, I felt calmer. 

I took the 1g raw and washed them down with a small ginger tea.
After 15 mins or so, I decided to walk alongside the nearby river, stopping to enjoy the nice currents and undercurrents forming in the gentle river.  After 30 mins I began getting quite sick feeling and could quite easily have thrown up, I felt quite dizzy and lay on the grassy bank for some time, watching the river flowing as I lay intoxicated.  I felt the poisoned effect that some folks talk of, but had mental clarity throughout, and did not panic.  (I wrote down 3 intentions before hand, to connect with my surroundings, to be present and to submit).
I immediately thought that "if I were to die here, the world will continue"...I did not at all feel I would die, I just remember thinking that was its way of telling me, I was not the centre of the world, just a piece of it.  This was not a sad thought.

I then summoned the energy to walk back downstream, and thoughts attached to very strong emotions began to fly at me very quickly, including ones such as "my headache is caused by me going against the frequency of the world", "find a job more meaningful", "do not run from emotions", "all emotions are normal", also a couple of more sobering ones such as "we? are all good out here in nature, you should focus on you", 

I arrived back at the tree where I ingested the mushrooms and met what felt like my old friend, I rubbed the trunk of the tree and felt its tender trunk under decaying bark, and thought it was just as humans are, tender under wounds. 

I then decided to walk home, feeling still very nauseous.  I wondered at the colours of the sun striking the river, and felt strange to be retreating to the small village adjacent to the farmland, I felt the energy change immediately. 

I then called my friend abroad to ask for some advice on the nausea, he recommended lemon water, which helped tremendously.  I also had incredibly strong desire to see my mother, who lives nearby.  She came down shortly after and I (in floods of tears) told her how much I love her and how grateful I am for all she's done for me.  We then spend the next 2 hours walking around the woods and quiet roads around my village, talking deeply and reminiscing. 

After she left, I took an evening cycle around the country roads amongst farmlands, enjoying the cloud formations so much.  I then visited my grandad's grave to say hi, enjoyed the cycle home and had a light dinner and journaled my day, much like ive done here.

It really was not what I expected, I didn't have any hallucinations, things were perhaps slightly more vibrant, and I felt very emotional and felt challenged by a lot of things I do in my life  (perhaps these were buried subconsciously?).  These included urges to, spend less time on my phone, do 1 thing at a time, tell my friends how much I love them and make more effort with them, stop smoking weed and using mushrooms?, take time for myself.

That was it in a few nutshells, does this sound remotely like what any of you have experienced ever?

Sounds pretty good all round!

Tripping is a strange beast and subject to so many influencing factors!

I think a lot of people, myself very much included, had the wrong idea about the visuals you generally get while tripping when first getting into it! I've definetly had libery cap trips that were all in the head with no real visuals to speak of. But to be honest while visuals are cool, one of the best things about tripping is getting to 'see' the world from a whole different angle! Shine a new light on things, expose the 'gaps' in stuff that used to seem 'solid'.

I do have a question though:

How were the mushrooms dried? Improperly dried mushrooms will lead to wonky dosing and potential potency loss.

One thing I will add is:

Don't be too hard on yourself! When I was a less aware person I could come away from a trip with some pretty heavy judgments about myself. Which would lead to knee jerk life style changes and on the whole unsuitable attempts at behaviour change that would ultimately result in a binge and purge cycle. Long story short, not much positive change and a whole lot of energy expended.
Take these insights away and sit on them for a little, slowly and gently let them sink in and start to influence you. Take your time. You're already where you need to be!

Now you've tasted the flesh of the Gods you might want to head over to the mush cult forum and start growing!

Good report LK59 sometimes trips are just that way. Lots of emotions with less visuals.

Also could be lots of other factors too. As for helping with nausea you could try tea or lemon tek next time also it’s common to fast for 4-6hrs or more before you ingest.

Be well, take time to let it all sink in before your next trip.

Thanks for the very insightful comments guys.  I thought my reply had gone through, but obviously not.

I have tried to do just that, not make any knee jerk reactions and let what i learned settle in before making any serious changes.  I do feel like i am able to see my surroundings clearer, hopefully something that remains.

In terms of drying, i left on baking paper overnight then the following day moved the paper to the top of a radiator. I then stored in a mason jar with a food grade silica crystal sachet.  Is this a suitable method?


I think ill definitely try lemon tek if i feel the calling again.  Is this generally the best for nausea? Or perhaps tea?
I'm fairly sure the nausea would be worse if i ever take a larger dose unless i do something different.

If you plan to continue to forage wild mushrooms (or decide to grow) getting a food dehydrator is key. It’s the best way to dry them properly. For magic mush I turn mine up to 160 degrees F and run it for 5-8 hours, until they are so dry they snap like crackers
Then store in glass jars out of sunlight with silica packs.

Some people all ginger to their tea or have lemon balm tea. Try some different things out and see what works for you.
In Mexican traditions raw cacao tea is drank 2-3 hr before eating the mushrooms (not sure if it helps with nausea).

Yes, this sounds like a fairly typical low dose trip.

Every time can be different, so with more experience you will learn to realise the common factors for your own physiology :smile:

I too have had a trip on mushrooms where I was overcome with profound love and gratitude for my parents, I had to tell them immediately on the phone.

It's normal to have a lot of repressed emotions make themselves known to you. It's important to take this with a pinch of salt, as, whilst it is useful to have your mind look at things with a new perspective, or show you things that you feel self critical about subconsciously, sometimes I find you can get overly self critical, and this is why it's important to take time to integrate the trip, and what messages you've receieved, and if they are truly helpful to you in life.

Sometimes they will be, sometime they won't.

If you take a higher dose, then you are more likely to get incredibly visuals, and a true spiritual experience.

It sounds like you overall had a more positive than negative experience though, so, congrats on your first time :smile:
