when they interview you for the juror position, try to sound like you're kind of biased on whatever the matter is. They won't use someone who is biased in any way on the trial.

or when they have the preliminary hearing pretend that the accused is a good friend of yours, and start harrasing him for that "10 bucks you owe me!"

Don't know about US but in Canada it's different, they will ask if you have a prejudice towards a race for example, if you say no you are out of there with no more questions! If you say yes there will be followups and so on. It's a very strange psychologically based system.

wear a teeshirt. What are they going to do? Not let you on the jury? Trust me that would not be a bad thing

I think I might just wear a tee. It says if a fail to show up I face upto a $500 fine and/or 10 in jail. I'm suppose to call the day before to see if they need me.

> 1..throw away the letter and go smoke a bowl and forget about it They hauled a buddy of mine away in handcuffs for that when I was in the states. Not the smoke a bowl part, but the forget about it part. The judge can and will issue a bench warrant for your arrest if you skip jury duty. Show up, sign in, see what it is about... usually they are one day deals where you listen to traffic cases all day. If they are looking for a long term commitment, then let them know it is going to be an extreme hardship (finals week, damnit!) or that you have a bias towards the case (I was arrested for a DUI and this is a DUI case, or I had a good friend that was raped and this is a rape case, etc...) Whatever you do, do not skip out on the court appearance or you will regret it later at the most inappropriate time... like when you get pulled over for having a headlight out with your inlaws in the car.

> wear a teeshirt. What are they going to do? Contempt of court... free few days in jail until the judge feels that you have learned respect for her courtroom. Edit: Call the courthouse and tell them that you don't own anything other than a t-shirt. That you are a poor student and that you cannot afford proper attire to attend court. They may let you out over the phone.

I have *accidently* skipped jury duty. I simply forgot about it. What I couldn't figure out, is why they would want me for jury duty? I have several warrants for my arrest in the state because of not-paid traffic tickets. The paranoid side of me even reflected that the jury duty summons might be an effort to "reel me in" so to speak. So I forgot about it. This was about a year ago, and I haven't had any other news about it.
Although like Seuss said, I wouldn't recommend skipping it!

it's not a big deal dude - you go down to Goodwill and pick up a dress shirt for like fifty cents, then you get the day off of work (and they have to give it to you too, cause they can be held liable if they don't) and then you just go down there early as fuck, listen to them babble about all kinds of stupid ass crap, and tell em that you're prejudice towards whomever they're trying to represent...after that - they're gonna tell you that you weren't one of the people chosen, and then you just go home and spend the rest of the day fucking around
and then you won't have to worry about getting summoned again for like a long ass time...cause even though you didn't actually serve on the jury - they'll still look at it as though you did (simply because you actually showed up in the first place, instead of just blowing it off like most people do)
