Hey I'd be interested to see a current or recent thread about this if either are so inclined.  I had an intense episode a few weeks ago.  Terrifying, I'll never forget the face and eyes of that entity hovering over me trying to absorb me.  I'd like to talk more about it....

i mean, what do you guys want to know? there have been plenty of threads on the topic already...

from what i understand, your brain puts out a chemical that paralyzes the body during REM sleep, keeps you from acting out your dreams. sleep paralysis happens when you become conscious with this chemical still floating around.  sleep walking would the other side of this.

usually happens for me just as i'm starting to fall asleep, but sometimes i'll wake up into it. those are the times when it's the most frightening, as i'll usually have bits of my dreams still floating around playing into the experience.

i don't get it very often anymore, unless my sleep has been really irregular, or if i've been using a lot of drugs. opiates will trigger it pretty good, slips right in with the nod. happened a lot when i was younger, teens to early twenties i'd say was the peak of it, every other night or so i'd get an episode.

i also used to sleep walk a lot, and still get the exploding head syndrome thing from time to time. maybe 3  times a month. sounds like a bomb going off inside my head. this also usually happens right at drifting off. there must be  something fucked up with the part of my brain that controls all this. i've found exercise and strict sleeping schedule to be the most effective treatment. a low dose benzo can also help.

I'd be more interested just in hearing experiences from other, and in thoughts some may have about the spiritual side of this.  I feel like it isnt just something physical happening..... which makes it a bit worrisome....
