Non cloth micropore tape?
    #26108846 -

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this is dumb question but I am.new to all of this. All of the pictures I see of people using micropore tape is of the cloth-like or paper-like variety but the one I have is not cloth or paper. It still says breathable and it definitely has micropores and is 3M brand. Will this work or do I need to use the one of the cloth or paper variety?

I'm sure its fine, if in doubt just layer the shit out of it or utilize tyvek envelopes from your local post office (they are free next to drop off, so you won't even have to ask anyone). They are red and say priority mail.

I figured it would be alright I just wanted to make sure and get input from someone who is more experienced than me. I hadn't thought of using tyvek that is a good idea. I'll go ahead and use the tape for one of my tubs and see how it goes and if it goes bad I'll try the tyvek. Thanks for the advice

Monotub? Then polyfill(pillow stuffing).. are we trying for fae or just gas exchange(colonization)?

FAE and GE on monotub

If the monotub is not colonized and consolidated then just tape up everything with NON breathable tape(I use duct tape both sides of tub where hole is located). There is plenty of gas and oxygen play in that vacuum to do the trick without it pinning before you are ready. Then you can use your fancy tape or whatever you choose when you want to induce fruiting over the hole(s) that you previously had sealed.

I also put saran wrap over the top before I put the lid, this is just how I have always done it and saw in massive flushing threads.

Awesome. Thanks a bunch. When colonizing does it need to be in a dark place to keep from pinning early?

Awesome. My spores should be showing up in the mail within the next couple days. I think I'm going to run a thread of the progress since it will be my first attempt at it. Wish me luck.

You can just use that tape the whole time and no need for dark. That's considered udated info here. Popular opinion is lights beneficial in all stages of growth and there is no reason not to give it FAE out of the gate. I mean don't let it dry up. Maintain surface conditions the whole time it's in a tub. Or don't lol. It's your world squirrel.

Okay so when colonizing just make sure it's in a sterile environment with little light. And the 3M micropore tape I am using is fine to use even during colonization. Just make sure it stays moist. So basically there would be no change between colonization and fruiting except the temp.

Very interesting! I'm skeptical!

There really shouldn't be any temp changes either. MP tape and 12/12 light cycle at spawning is beneficial. No use for a liner either, if you were gonna use one.

It looks like everyone has kind of their own ways of doing it each of which works for them. After reading a bunch of forums and the responses I've got on here I think I'll give some things a try that seem like they will have good results and update the results as they happen. Thanks a ton for all the info from everyone. I'll most likely have more questions and will make sure to post my process and results along the way.

I would advise finding bodhisatta (wtf does that even mean? ) then click the link in his signature and follow the instructions

When you say it definitely has micropores, what do you mean, did you look at it under a microscope? Does the inside of the roll say anything? It seems others have moved on from the tape identification topic but my curiosity has not been satisfied.

Yes its transpore tape. And it's not paper or  cloth like the others. And yea you can see the pores like you can in the cloth type micropore tape.ill they and upload a picture of it. Also, another question. After brf cakes are fully colonized and ready to be birthed and soaked for hydration, why can't I just soak them in the jars that they colonized in. I dont understand why I have to birth them out of the jars and then soak them. It just seems like an extra step that can be eliminated by soaking then in the jar and then birthing the cakes after.

As you can see it is not paper. However it is breathable and has micropores.
