i'm fairly ignorant when it comes to "trans culture".  in my world, people are people, and they're either alright or assholes.

if your view is such people are alright, whether they are trans or not, we are effectively still on the same page


that's really all trans culture is in this instance -- recognizing ourselves as a subset of people who would prefer to find a gender-swap gun than aliens or a flying car

from the comedic standpoint, transpeople "want in" to Area-51 similar to how "standard" conspiracy theorists "want in" and are organizing a mass invasion
but with the recognition that no one else in the charge is going in hoping for the same outcome; non-trans people would likely be deeply disappointed if the only outcome from Area-51 was gender swap technology, even tho transpeople who have no interest in joining the raid would love to see such an outcome

think the gender swap gun idea came up as being something portable that could be retrieved from a raid
and then brought back so other transpeople could use it

i don't think that making jokes about such a topic is a determining factor in whether one is "alright or an asshole", and in that case alone i would tend to default to "alright" as they aren't hurting anyone or legitimately inciting anyone to do something that would get anyone hurt
